Kathleen Sullivan
I am psychiatric nurse practitioner who started in crisis psychiatry and I currently work primarily in private practice. I have worked with most ages of patients from age 4 to 103. My treatment approach is collaborative, informal, and based on current clinical findings. I have lived overseas and continue to travel. My family background is multi-cultural and full of unusual characters. I am a mother of an adult son and the housemate of several large dogs.
First session
My approach is to heavily front load the appointments. In the first appointment, I may ask a lot of questions to try to understand what the clients might need and what they wish from the collaboration. This approach has been successful because the clients can provide as much information and input in the beginning so we have a good foundation of information to work with for goals and expectations.
Strengths
My approach is optimistic, practical, and frank. I am comfortable tailoring medication regimens to the unique qualities of my unique clients. Additionally, I try to incorporate as much non-pharmaceutical suggestions into the treatment, so a client feels that they are not just taking pills and hoping for them to work.
Ideal clients
My main goals with clients is to assist them individually in identifying personal trends or cycles that are both helpful or harmful, developing distress tolerance, boundaries, and practical approaches to solving problems, and creating opportunities for themselves. My hope is that clients will feel resilient, flexible, and able to make good decisions in life and look forward to the future.
