Welcome! I'm Andy Valdes, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping children, adolescents and adults improve their mental health and overall quality of life. I believe that effective psychiatric care goes beyond prescribing medication, it starts with listening, understanding your unique experiences, and working together to create a personalized treatment plan. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, bipolar disorder, or other mental health concerns, my goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a supportive and judgment-free environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout your journey to wellness.

First session

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and build a clear understanding of what brings you to treatment. We'll discuss your current concerns, symptoms, medical and mental health history, lifestyle, and any previous treatments you've tried. I'll also take time to understand your personal goals and what you hope to achieve through care. Together, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication management, supportive therapy, education about your condition, and practical strategies to help you feel better. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based—I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and actively participating in decisions about your care. By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer understanding of your diagnosis (when appropriate), treatment options, and the next steps toward achieving your mental health goals.

Strengths

I believe the best psychiatric care starts with truly listening. My approach is patient-centered, collaborative, and evidence-based, with the understanding that every person's experiences, goals, and challenges are unique. I take the time to understand the whole person, not just the diagnosis so we can develop a treatment plan that fits your life and supports lasting progress. Patients often appreciate that I explain diagnoses, medications, and treatment options in clear, easy to understand language, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care. I strive to create a supportive, respectful, and judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable discussing difficult topics. Whether your treatment involves medication, therapy-based strategies, lifestyle modifications, or a combination of approaches, my goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and confident as we work together toward improved mental health and overall well-being.

Ideal clients

I work with children, adolescents and adults who are ready to better understand their mental health and take meaningful steps toward lasting improvement. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, panic attacks, insomnia, or difficulties managing stress and emotions, I provide personalized, evidence-based care tailored to your needs. Many of my patients come to me feeling overwhelmed, stuck, struggling with focus, navigating life transitions, or seeking a more effective medication regimen. Others are looking for a provider who will take the time to listen, explain treatment options clearly, and involve them in every decision. My goal is to help you reduce symptoms, improve daily functioning, build resilience, and achieve a better quality of life through a collaborative and compassionate approach.

Treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I incorporate mindfulness-based techniques to help patients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without immediately reacting to them. By learning to stay present in the moment, many people experience less anxiety, reduced stress, improved emotional regulation, and greater resilience when facing life's challenges. In practice, I teach practical mindfulness skills that can be used in everyday life, such as breathing exercises, grounding techniques, and strategies for managing racing thoughts and overwhelming emotions. These techniques are often combined with medication management and other evidence-based approaches to help patients build healthier coping skills, improve self-awareness, and create lasting changes that support their overall mental well-being.
