Hi there! Imagine you were able to start looking at yourself as someone who has what it takes and can hold it all together in whatever situation you are facing. Just picture getting over your past and facing the future with strength and belief in yourself . Get ready to feel worthy and start liking yourself! My name is Gershon but you can call me Gary. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of New Jersey. I am trained in many different modalities including EMDR, IFS, CBT, DBT, ACT amongst others but now what I mainly use because I have found it most useful, efficient, and effective based on my clients' feedback is solution focused brief therapy (SFBT). It's about having a healing conversation with you that brings out your best, most hopeful, most confident, healthiest version of yourself!
I like to get straight to business by asking you what your best hopes from seeing me is and I ask you questions and provide feedback to your answers with the goal of helping you create a description of what it will look like when you get to your desired outcome and highlights your strengths, abilities, resources, and past successes thus helping you generate a rediscovered belief in your abilities to cope and change your life around for the better! I hope you will come out with something useful from the first session. Many of my clients report to me that they like my style and it is something different than they have experienced in the past.
I am a good listener, but I am also interactive, which means I do more than just listen and nod my head. I provide feedback and ask questions that help you think and learn about yourself in a way that moves you forward. I know you come here to pour your heart out, but I don't want it to stop at that - I want you to come out of each session feeling good about yourself and being progressively more hopeful about your situation.
I like SFBT because it is direct and it fills my clients with hope and provides improvement with each session. My clients report feeling more positive after each session. I ask questions that will help you dig deep into yourself and tap into a better and more effective part of yourself. I don't tell you what to do, rather I help you find your own inner advisor so you can resolve whatever is bothering you or deal with it in the best way possible so you can be the hero of your own life story!
I have been trained in IFS, but although I don't use it in its truest form, because I mainly practice solution-focused therapy, I do use components of it, such as parts work and inner child work, to guide me in how I ask my questions and provide healing. I believe that SFBT is a form of parts work/ego state therapy in where the goal is to ask questions which guide you to a more hopeful, effective, and confident part of yourself so you can feel and act your best!
