Hello! My name is Lauren, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a registered art therapist with seven years of experience in various mental health settings. I work with children, teens, and adults to help them manage their emotions and live fulfilling, valued lives. I am trained in Brainspotting, which allows me to support clients in processing their experiences deeply. I have a special interest in working with the LGBTQIA community, particularly those who identify as asexual, the neurodivergent population, those recovering from religious trauma, and boundary work.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, you can expect a welcoming atmosphere as we go through the intake process together. We’ll take the time to discuss your background, the challenges you’re currently facing, and your goals for therapy. This session is an opportunity for you to share your experiences at your own pace, while I listen attentively and ask questions to better understand your unique needs. We'll discuss policies and procedures related to starting therapy together, as well as mandated reporting requirements so that you feel comfortable discussing any sensitive topics openly. We’ll also talk about my approach to therapy and how we can work together effectively. At the end of our session, I may suggest some targeted approaches we can try to address specific issues you may be feeling, but don't worry, you are always welcome, in any session, to disagree with a statement or suggestion I offer. My aim is to ensure you feel comfortable and validated as we begin this journey toward healing and growth.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I care deeply about every client I work with, and I always aim to hold space for you without judgement or expectation. One of my greatest strengths is that I have worked in many different settings and encountered many different kinds of clients with a wide range of challenges that I now have experience in treating. I am able to provide psychoeducation on a wide variety of topics due to the rigorous amount of educational groups I have led and the experience I have gained working alongside doctors, nurses, and other mental health professionals, as well as my own efforts to stay up to date on the latest mental health research. Along with private/group practice, I have experience working in psych hospitals and crisis centers, and can calmly and supportively help clients through their stormiest periods. I have been trained in multiple styles of therapy and am able to pick and choose principles of each to tailor-fit my approach to better serve your unique needs. I am a registered art therapist. Art therapy can be used to explore emotions with imagery and bring experiences to a 2- or 3-D space that can often be more easily talked about than just trying to put thoughts to words. I am an advocate for my clients. I truly want you to succeed. While of course every therapist hopes their clients feel better at the end of therapy, I want to help you DO better, too. You have already done the hard part by just being on this site and being open to going to therapy. That shows tremendous courage that you are willing to change! My job is more than just about creating a safe space for you, but also to address the problems you came to therapy with, challenge you (gently) each session to be a better version of yourself, and be a mirror that reflects the strengths and inherent goodness you already have.

My treatment methods

Humanistic

I embrace a humanistic approach, focusing on your unique experiences and inherent potential for growth. This perspective fosters a supportive and empathetic environment, where you can explore your feelings, values, and aspirations. During our sessions, we’ll engage in open dialogue, helping you gain self-awareness and insight. Together, we’ll work on cultivating self-acceptance and understanding, allowing you to navigate challenges and create a more fulfilling life. You can expect a warm, non-judgmental space where your voice is heard and valued.

Brainspotting

I utilize Brainspotting as a powerful therapeutic tool to help clients access and process deeply held emotions and trauma. This method allows us to identify specific “brainspots” that correspond to your emotional experiences, facilitating a focused processing of those feelings. In our sessions, you can expect a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and sensations at your own pace. By engaging in this process, you’ll have the opportunity to release stuck emotions and foster healing, leading to greater emotional resilience and clarity.
