Amy Mia Hall
Originally from the West Coast, I've lived in geographically and culturally diverse regions including New York, Florida, Georgia, Washington State, Oregon, California, and now Virginia. I've always been a bit adventurous and am happy to have learned from all of my patients and the cultural environment in which I've lived, whether it was while I was a labor and delivery nurse, Midwife, GYN provider, and now a psychiatric medication provider. I see my clients as part of their larger world, which intersects and sometimes is completely divergent from their family of origin, the families they become a part of, and the families they create. Family influences and supports are important, regardless. I value holistic methods of maximizing health and wellbeing including fine tuning nutrition, physical activity and exercise, feeding the soul with spending time outdoors exploring and soaking in the natural world. It's not only "in your mind;" rather it is there and also a composite of ones genetics, how they grow up, the trauma and challenges they may have experienced, and what is going on in the present. I am a sole practitioner in private practice, which is great for my patients, as there are no extraneously imposed barriers to care.
First session
Most people have ideas about what is going on with them and maybe even how they would like to treated. Our first session will start with a client's hopes and ideas for treatment, and whether we may work together on their behalf. It will then consist of gathering and synthesizing their information to form a treatment plan.
Strengths
Treatment of mental conditions are usually not simply about taking medicine. I value holistic treatment, that is, addressing nutrition, physical activity, how therapy can help, and how a client interacts with their world, in addition to medication.
Ideal clients
Clients presenting with depression, anxiety, ADHD, mood instability, and/or insomnia usually seek medication management, which is my specialty. As a Certified Nurse Midwife, women's issues such as perinatal and postpartum-related stressors are one of my strengths. High school-aged persons benefit from exploring whether medication would benefit them versus addressing some of their needs with holistic measures and a healthy lifestyle. Most clients need information about the effects of nutrition, physical activity, substance misuse, sleep hygiene, socialization and pursuit of enjoyment on mental health. Older clients have unique stressors which benefit from compassion and the experience of a practitioner who is closer to their ages.
Treatment methods
Compassion-Focused
In treating psychiatric disorders, I discover much about and connect efficiently with clients using supportive methods. These allow a client to feel "seen" and are therefore more able to report the most difficult emotional and mental issues with which they are dealing. Forming a rapport with a patient using supportive measures is integral in using shared decision making when choosing medication therapies.
