Hi! My name is Maria. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in California. Take a moment to acknowledge you've taken the first step towards bettering your mental health because, let's be honest - starting therapy can be empowering, confusing, or scary, all at the same time. I have many years of experience working with children, youth and their families, who have experienced trauma. I will work with you and empower you to know that your voice is heard; you are seen; and that you matter.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. Together, we will identify your challenges and goals - where you want your life to be a month, six months, a year from now. Then, we'll identify options and strategies you can use to get there. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Having worked with children, youth and adults who experienced trauma for the past 15 years, I meet clients where they are at and work together as a team to find solutions. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Life can seem difficult and challenging. Sometimes these moments in our lives could leave us feeling overwhelmed, sad, angry, depressed, anxious, and at times, we can experience all these feelings at once. This can leave us feeling unbalanced, helpless, or feel like we are losing control. Therapy can help. My approach is to work together with you as a team, and find solutions to your identified needs. Three words describe my therapeutic approach: transparent, compassionate, and non-judgemental.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the past 15 years. It’s helped clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety, depression, and trauma. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.

Interpersonal

Are you experiencing issues with friends, family, co-workers, and/or people in general? I use Interpersonal Therapy to focus on improving interpersonal relationships and communication to address mental health issues, particularly depression, by identifying and addressing problem areas in relationships, such as grief, role disputes, or transitions.

Supportive

In practice, we will focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship. I provide a supportive space for clients to freely express their thoughts and process feelings that come up. We will work together to develop coping skills and achieve your goals through techniques like active listening, problem-solving, and reframing.
