M y name is Roticia Smith, LPC, NCC. I have an Bachelors of Science in Psychology, minor in Sociology with a focus in Social Work-Social Welfare and a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of West Georgia. I work with adolescents, teenagers, adults and geriatric populations in areas of anxiety, depression, grief, mood disorders and trauma. My approach combines Client Centeredness, Warmth, Actively listening CBT and Solution focused orientations. I help individuals to identify and process cognitive distortions that are connected to negative emotions and unfavorable behaviors. I believe we are our best selves when we have the best quality of life possible.

During the first session there is a brief introduction from the therapist, the client will be provided a safe space to build rapport and express any presenting concerns. Individual goals are agreed upon and established to began moving forward.

As a therapist the strengths that I bring to the session is nonjudgemental client centeredness, active listening and willingness to work with client to accomplish expected goals.

The client works with therapist to identify specific presenting concerns and contributing factors to thoughts, emotions and behaviors. The ideal client has the time and willingness to establish attainable goals. Client is prompt, openly discusses new and current challenges, however there may be moments where client simply needs to lean in to awareness which calls for moments of silent or verbal processing.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is used to identify connections between unfavorable thoughts, feelings and behavior. Once awareness of negative thought patterns are recognized and challenged; problem solving techniques are used to change adverse behaviors in addition to the development of coping mechanisms to maintain consistency in positive growth.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person centered approach allows the client to process in safe non judgmental setting and is paired with Mindfulness which allows Individuals to become fully present with their own thoughts and feeling with no judgement of self or external elements. Client is then able to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
