New to Grow
Hi, I'm Miriam, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) dedicated to helping children, adolescents, adults, and families navigate life's challenges with compassion, understanding, and practical support. I believe that healing happens when individuals feel safe, heard, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives. My approach is collaborative, client-centered, and tailored to each person's unique needs and goals. I utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and psychoeducation to help clients develop healthy coping skills, improve emotional well-being, and build resilience.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and my goal is to make the process as comfortable and supportive as possible. During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brought you to therapy. I'll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, relationships, strengths, and goals so I can better understand your unique experiences and how I can best support you. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the therapy process and share what you hope to gain from counseling. Together, we'll identify areas you would like to focus on and begin developing a plan tailored to your needs and goals. There is no pressure to share everything at once. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. By the end of our first session, you can expect to have a better understanding of the counseling process and a clearer sense of how we will work together to help you achieve your goals.
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I understand that seeking therapy can be difficult, and I strive to build a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy, and genuine connection. I believe in meeting clients where they are. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, uncertain, or ready to make changes, I tailor my approach to your unique needs, strengths, and goals rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I balance compassion with practical strategies, helping clients gain insight while also developing tools they can use in their everyday lives. With experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families, I understand that each person's journey is different. I utilize evidence-based approaches such as CBT, TF-CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and psychoeducation to help clients better understand themselves, navigate challenges, and build lasting resilience. Clients often appreciate my ability to provide a safe space for difficult conversations while also helping them identify strengths they may not recognize in themselves. My goal is not only to help clients overcome current challenges but also to empower them with the confidence, skills, and support needed to continue growing long after therapy ends. For clients who desire it, I can also integrate Christian faith into the counseling process, helping them draw upon their spiritual beliefs as a source of strength, healing, and hope.
I am best positioned to work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who are navigating life's challenges and seeking support, healing, and personal growth. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or uncertain about how to move forward. I specialize in helping individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral concerns, life transitions, relationship challenges, parenting stress, and adjustment difficulties. I also enjoy working with caregivers and parents who are looking for practical strategies to better support their children while strengthening family relationships. My ideal clients are not necessarily people who have all the answers—they are individuals who are willing to explore their experiences, develop new coping skills, and take steps toward meaningful change. Some clients come to therapy ready to make changes, while others may simply be looking for a safe space to process their thoughts and emotions. Both are welcome. I provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can feel heard, understood, and empowered. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each person's unique needs, strengths, and goals. Together, we work to build resilience, improve emotional well-being, strengthen relationships, and create lasting positive change. For clients who desire it, I also offer a faith-based perspective and can integrate Christian principles into the counseling process, helping them explore the connection between emotional wellness, personal growth, and spiritual well-being.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My approach is individualized and goal-oriented. Sessions often include identifying triggers, exploring the relationship between thoughts and emotions, developing problem-solving skills, practicing emotional regulation techniques, and implementing behavioral changes that support long-term growth. I also incorporate homework assignments and real-life skill practice when appropriate to help clients apply what they learn outside of sessions.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help children, adolescents, and families heal from difficult or traumatic experiences in a safe, supportive, and structured way. Trauma can affect how a person thinks, feels, behaves, and interacts with others. TF-CBT helps clients understand how past experiences may be impacting them today while teaching practical skills to manage emotions and build resilience. In therapy, we work at a pace that feels comfortable for the client. Sessions focus on developing coping skills, managing difficult emotions, reducing anxiety, improving communication, and increasing feelings of safety and confidence. As trust is built, clients are gently supported in processing their experiences in a way that helps reduce the emotional impact of the trauma.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore and strengthen their own motivation for change. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I work alongside them to help them identify their goals, values, and reasons for wanting something different in their lives. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, unsure, or conflicted about making changes. Whether it's improving relationships, managing mental health symptoms, changing unhealthy habits, or navigating a major life transition, it's normal to have mixed feelings. Motivational Interviewing provides a supportive, nonjudgmental space to talk through those challenges and gain clarity.
Psychoeducation
I use psychoeducation to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, mental health symptoms, and life experiences. Sometimes it can be difficult to manage challenges when you do not fully understand what is happening or why you are feeling a certain way. Psychoeducation provides information, tools, and insight that can help make those experiences feel less overwhelming and more manageable. In therapy, I explain topics such as anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, emotional regulation, relationships, communication, parenting, and other mental health concerns in a way that is easy to understand and apply to everyday life. I also help clients recognize how their experiences may be impacting their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Christian Counseling
I offer Christian Counseling for clients who would like to incorporate their faith into the counseling process. Christian Counseling combines evidence-based therapeutic approaches with biblical principles to support emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual growth.I believe that faith can be a powerful source of strength, hope, healing, and guidance during life's challenges. In our sessions, we may explore how your beliefs, values, and relationship with God influence your thoughts, emotions, decisions, and experiences. Depending on your preferences and comfort level, counseling may include discussions about Scripture, prayer, forgiveness, purpose, identity, and spiritual growth.
