My name is Jodi Cofer and I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and I have been working in mental healthcare since 2015. I love working with individuals (13 and older), couples, and families to help them find hope and healing as they navigate relationships and mental health struggles. Using a variety of modalities, I work to assist clients in achieving goals that help them live fulfilling lives. My clients report positive outcomes and feel equipped to overcome many issues that felt insurmountable prior to therapy. I have a strong preference for in-person therapy but I am also equipped to utilize telemedicine as needed depending on client need.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In a first session clients can expect a conversation about confidentiality and my therapeutic process. They should also expect to find a safe place to share the struggles they are experiencing and the outcomes that they desire. I believe strongly in client-focused goals, meaning that I work collaboratively with clients to help them articulate and chase goals that will result in increased satisfaction with life and relationships.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work to make everyone feel welcome in my office. I have a varied background which gives me particular insight into individuals struggling with trauma, shame, addiction, depression, anxiety, and family conflict. I consider myself a wounded healer which enables me to have empathy and compassion for those who are suffering from a whole host of issues. That being said, I have strong beliefs about empowering my clients to feel equipped to be architects of the life they want to live.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is perhaps the most well-known and empirically-supported modalities of therapy which focuses on unhelpful patterns of thought that increase suffering. CBT often plays a role in helping people thrive in spite of past trauma and or struggles with mental health. I also use DBT and ACT, both of which grew out of the CBT traditions. BT is useful in teaching mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal skills. These skills can help individuals struggling with a variety of stressors, diagnoses, and backgrounds. ACT is a modality that evolved out of CBT which works to empower individuals to "act" according to their values while learning to manage the discomfort associated diagnoses like GAD and PTSD.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation plays an integral role in all modalities of therapy because gaining understanding of why we suffer and prevalence of issues is and important part of learning to live more free.

Couples Counseling

Relationships are hard but I love marriage therapy! I have completed the third level of training in the Gottman method and enjoy using the tools that have been developed by John and Julie Gottman to assist couples not only in recovering from hurt, but also in creating mutually satisfying relationships that helps families thrive.

Eclectic

I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy and as a result I do my best to find the modality that works best with my clients' struggles, background, cultural identity, and more.

Christian Counseling

I believe individuals are bio-psycho-social-spiritual in nature, and unless all aspects of an individual are addressed, holistic healing is often elusive. While I am a Christian, and love incorporating faith into my therapeutic approach, I am also comfortable counseling from a secular perspective. I work with individuals across a wide spectrum of beliefs.
