Merave Yosef
I graduated with my Masters in Social Work and Trauma Certificate from Simmons University in 2022. I previously worked as a crisis counselor providing care to both adults as well as children and families. During this time I saw a small caseload of adult clients until 2024 before transitioning to working as a community based therapist providing care to youth with problematic sexual behaviors. In 2025 I started to build up my caseload of EMDR clients and transitioned to office based work. I am extremely passionate about my work with EMDR and will nerd out when given the opportunity to share it. I take a holistic approach when working with clients and try to bring in body based and ego state techniques as well. I like to help make my clients feel that we are on equal footing (because P.S. I am also human) and recognize that they are the expert in their life and know themselves best. I do my best to be as transparent as possible without crossing boundaries. It is my priority when working with clients is to support them in a way that helps them feel comfortable and safe to explore themselves and achieve their goals.
First session
Within our first session I try to keep it low pressure. I will discuss confidentiality and once we have the paperwork out of the way [diagnostic assessment (asking questions to gather symptoms to give insurance a diagnosis for why you need care) and treatment planning (creating goals and action steps we will take to get you to your goals {also for insurance}] then we would get to know each other a bit (I would be interested to know about your history or thoughts surrounding therapy as well as the name of any pets/kiddos or important people in your life). I encourage my clients to ask about me too if they are curious, again I try to be transparent without crossing boundaries and I will implement boundaries. I will most likely share about different approaches that I think may be helpful for us to try and provide education surrounding them. This is how I envision a first session going.
Strengths
As aforementioned, I take a holistic approach. I am very comfortable with silence and utilize it within my sessions when needed. Once a relationship/rapport is built I may push back with my clients when trying to help them see patterns and behaviors that may not be serving them. I utilize metaphors a lot within my sessions, my favorite one is about Matryoshka (Russian Nesting Dolls). I love to bring in EMDR when it is appropriate and am always willing to explore it with clients who are interested.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve individuals who are open minded about modalities/interventions and willing to try new things to help themselves through their concerns. I have worked with a wide range of people from age 6 to 63. I use a lot of body based work and visualization within my sessions. I work best with individuals who understand that they are the experts in their life and I am here to help walk along side them on their healing journey. With my EMDR training I am well equipped to help first responders and healthcare workers with their goals.
Treatment methods
EMDR
EMDR is an intervention that I utilize with clients who would like to process through dysregulating events without having to share the whole event. It helps the brain and the body complete the fight or flight experience that was stuck during the event. I let the client control the pacing in regards to building up coping skills or processing. Within my use of EMDR I like to build up body awareness (paying attention to sensations within the body and what it may be trying to say) and use a lot of metaphors/visualizations to help clear things out.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is an intervention I utilize with clients who would like to focus on changing behaviors, focusing on how the thoughts and feelings influence the behaviors then attempting to shift the way we manage the thoughts and feelings.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have taken two intro courses into DBT and like to utilize techniques related to this intervention such as: mindfulness, the concept of a dialectic (two seemingly opposite things can be true at the same time) and the concept of the different minds (emotional, logical and wise).
Family Therapy
Family therapy is an intervention I utilize with those who are interested in working through issues related to family dynamics. My approach is seeing the family as the client and helping them better communicate, build trust and relationship with one another.
Motivational Interviewing
MI is an intervention I utilize when a client seems like they may not be ready for a change or life events. We work through what could things look like related to the change and how we can help them get there if that is what they want.
