Diana McClure

LCSW (she/her)2 years of experience

I’m a pretty down-to-earth person, and my clients often describe me as fun, cheerful, easy to talk to, and someone who doesn’t beat around the bush. I’m energetic and nurturing, but also laid-back, and I want people to feel comfortable being themselves around me. A lot of how I connect with people comes from my own experiences. I’m a mom of two teenage boys, and with their friends often feeling like extended family, I’ve experienced plenty of the ups, downs, challenges, and humor that come with parenting and growing up. I’ve also experienced grief and loss within my family and understand how life’s unexpected challenges can affect our emotions, relationships, and everyday lives. These experiences help me connect with teens, parents, families, young adults, and adults in a genuine and relatable way. I want people to feel safe talking to me without worrying about being judged. I’ll listen, help you sort through what’s going on, and be honest with you—even when you may not want to hear it. Most importantly, I believe therapy is a partnership. I can give you the tools, support, and encouragement, but I can’t do the work for you. My goal is to help you feel understood, build confidence in yourself, and figure out what steps will help you move forward.

First session

Starting therapy can feel a little uncomfortable when you don’t know what to expect. Your first session is really about getting to know each other and understanding what brings you in. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, what you’d like help with, and your goals for therapy. We’ll also discuss any previous therapy, treatment, or other support you’ve tried and what was or wasn’t helpful. You’ll have a chance to ask questions, get a feel for my approach, and decide if I’m someone you feel comfortable working with. You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. Just show up as you are, and we’ll take it from there.

Strengths

I believe therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who genuinely gets you, not a place where you feel like you're being judged, analyzed, or given a list of things you're doing wrong. My approach is warm, genuine, and practical. I’m willing to laugh with you, listen when things are hard, and be honest when something needs to change. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach—I want to understand who you are, what you’ve experienced, and what will actually work in your everyday life. I also believe that you know yourself best. My role is to help you make sense of what you’re experiencing, give you tools and a different perspective, and support you as you figure out your next steps. I’ll be in your corner, but I won’t do the work for you. Together, we’ll focus on progress that feels real—not just progress that looks good on paper.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who wants to feel understood, supported, and accepted, but is also ready to take steps toward making things better. They may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, frustrated, or unsure of how to handle what life is throwing at them. I especially enjoy working with people who may feel misunderstood by the people around them—teens trying to find their place, parents trying to understand their kids, families struggling to communicate, or adults who are carrying more than they let others see. You don't have to have everything figured out before you come to therapy. You just need to be willing to show up, be honest, and try. I'm a good fit for someone who appreciates a therapist who will listen without judgment, bring some humor and positivity, and also be honest and direct when it's needed.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we look at the patterns that may be keeping them stuck and explore whether those thoughts are helpful, realistic, or getting in the way. Rather than simply telling you to “think more positively,” we’ll work on changing unhelpful thinking patterns, building coping skills, and trying new ways of responding to difficult situations. The goal is to take what we work on in session and apply it to real life—whether that means managing anxiety, handling conflict, improving confidence, or responding differently when emotions feel overwhelming.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better understand and manage big emotions, stressful situations, and difficult relationships. We focus on practical skills that can be used in everyday life—not just talked about in therapy. Together, we may work on regulating emotions, tolerating difficult moments, communicating more effectively, and becoming more aware of thoughts and feelings before they lead to reactions we may regret. My goal is to help clients feel more in control of their responses while also learning that their feelings are valid. We’ll work on accepting where you are while building the skills to move toward where you want to be.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I use mindfulness-based approaches to help clients slow down, tune into what they’re experiencing, and become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and reactions without immediately judging or reacting to them. We may practice simple, practical techniques such as breathing exercises, grounding, noticing thoughts and emotions, or learning to stay present during stressful moments. These skills can be especially helpful when anxiety, frustration, or overwhelming emotions make it difficult to think clearly. The goal isn’t to clear your mind or “stop” difficult feelings. It’s to learn how to pause, understand what’s happening, and choose how you want to respond rather than feeling controlled by the moment.

Solution-Focused Brief Treatment

I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients focus on where they want to go, rather than only on what has gone wrong. Together, we identify your strengths, what’s already working, and small changes that can move you toward your goals. We’ll look for practical solutions and build on the progress you’re already making. Sometimes even a small change can create a bigger difference than you expect. The goal is to help you recognize your strengths, build confidence, and take realistic steps forward—without feeling like you have to figure everything out all at once.

Supportive

I use supportive therapy to provide a safe, accepting space where you can talk openly about what you’re going through without fear of judgment. Sometimes, you don’t need someone to immediately fix the problem—you need someone to listen, understand, and help you sort through what you’re feeling. Together, we’ll talk through challenges, build on your strengths, and work toward finding ways to cope with what life is bringing your way. I’ll offer encouragement, perspective, and honest feedback when it’s helpful. The goal is to help you feel heard, supported, and less alone, while building confidence in your ability to handle life’s challenges.
