I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alabama and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Utah, with 18 years of experience as a Case Manager, Mental Health Regional/Remote Therapist, and School Counselor. Throughout my career, I have remained deeply committed to supporting the Deaf community. I am passionate about promoting mental health equity and enhancing the overall well-being of Deaf individuals. My work focuses on providing accessible, culturally responsive services that empower Deaf clients in all areas of their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first counseling sessions, I typically explain the purpose and structure of counseling, explore the client’s reasons for seeking support, and discuss collaborative goal-setting. I also focus on building rapport through open and respectful dialogue to create a safe and trusting environment for the client.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my key strengths as a counselor is my active listening. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves. I pay close attention to the themes that emerge during sessions and help clients make meaningful connections between their experiences and actionable steps they can take to move forward.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am eager to work with Deaf individuals across the lifespan—from early childhood through adulthood. I believe Deaf people possess the innate abilities to navigate life’s challenges, and with the right support and encouragement, they can build upon their existing strengths. My goal is to help them recognize and expand their baseline skills, empowering them to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

With over ten years of experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approaches, I have effectively supported clients in achieving personal goals such as developing coping skills, making informed decisions, and building self-advocacy. When adapted to be culturally and linguistically accessible, CBT is especially effective for Deaf clients. Its structured, goal-oriented framework supports emotional regulation and self-awareness, addressing challenges such as language deprivation and communication barriers. CBT empowers Deaf individuals by helping them reframe negative thoughts, confront internalized audism, and build confidence. Through visual tools, ASL-based strategies, and culturally relevant content, CBT offers a flexible, evidence-based method that fosters healing, resilience, and personal growth.
