Niki Lehnherr
I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is to come alongside you, help you recognize the strengths you already have, and support you in creating the changes you want to see. I see therapy as a collaborative process—we’ll work together to understand what’s been feeling difficult, uncover what may be keeping you stuck, and find a path forward that feels realistic, meaningful, and true to who you are. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and goal-oriented. I want you to feel comfortable showing up as your authentic self and talking openly about what’s going on, without fear of judgment. My hope is that our work together helps you better understand yourself, build on your strengths, and make meaningful changes that fit the life you want to live. You don’t have to know exactly what you need before reaching out. Maybe you’re struggling with something specific, or maybe you simply know that something doesn’t feel right and you’re ready for things to be different. Wherever you’re starting from, you don’t have to have it all figured out. We can start there, together. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, confident, and clear about where you want to go—and to support you as you create a life that feels more like your own.
First session
Your first session is all about getting to know you—your story, your goals, and what brought you to therapy. We'll talk about what's working, what feels challenging, and what you hope to gain from our time together. I'll ask questions to help guide the conversation so you don't need to prepare anything—just come as you are.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to balance compassion with action. I believe it’s important to create space for difficult emotions and experiences, especially the ones we may have spent years avoiding, minimizing, or pushing aside. Healing often begins when we’re able to slow down, acknowledge what’s there, and approach ourselves with curiosity rather than judgment. At the same time, I’m not a therapist who simply sits quietly and nods. While there is tremendous value in feeling heard and understood, I also believe meaningful change comes from developing insight, challenging unhelpful patterns, and taking steps toward the life you want to live. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, offer honest observations, and encourage you to consider new perspectives when it feels helpful. My approach is influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor our work to your unique strengths, goals, needs, and circumstances. My goal is for therapy to feel both supportive and productive—a place where you can process what’s weighing you down while also building the confidence, insight, and skills you need to move forward. I want you to leave our work together not only feeling understood, but also feeling more equipped to navigate life with greater clarity, confidence, and intention.
Ideal clients
I work with teenagers and adults through many different seasons of life. I especially enjoy working with women as they navigate life transitions, relationships, parenting, career challenges, anxiety, stress, and the many responsibilities that can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from ourselves. I also enjoy working with men and adolescents who are looking for support, greater self-understanding, and practical tools to navigate life with more confidence and intention.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients make room for difficult thoughts and emotions without letting them take over. Together, we'll focus on what matters most to you and identify practical steps that help you move toward the life you want, even during challenging seasons.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be keeping them stuck. Together, we'll identify practical strategies to challenge unhelpful patterns, build new skills, and create meaningful change in daily life.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore their goals, values, and readiness for change. Rather than telling you what to do, I work alongside you to strengthen your confidence, identify what matters most, and support you in making changes that feel meaningful and sustainable.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients better understand the different thoughts, emotions, and reactions that can sometimes feel at odds with one another. Together, we'll explore these experiences with curiosity and compassion, helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and create lasting change.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I se Solution Focused Brief Therapy to help clients identify their strengths, build on what is already working, and create realistic steps towards their goals. Together, we'll focus on practical solutions and meaningful progress rather than staying stuck in the problem.
