Gerilynne Mendez
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over three years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families. I provide individual and family therapy for concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, selective mutism, trauma, and other emotional and behavioral challenges.
I focus on building genuine connections, meeting clients where they are, and tailoring treatment to their individual needs, strengths, and goals.
My approach is compassionate, client-centered, and strengths-based, focusing on meeting each client where they are and helping them develop practical tools to improve their emotional well-being and overall quality of life.
First session
In the first session, we focus on getting to know each other in a relaxed, easygoing way while addressing what brought you to therapy. This is a space for you to share your main concerns at your own pace, ask questions, and talk about what you’re hoping to get out of the process. We’ll work together to build rapport, discuss goals, and make sure you feel comfortable, supported, and understood.
Strengths
I bring a warm, empathetic, and collaborative approach to sessions, creating a safe space where clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable being themselves. I focus on building genuine connections, meeting clients where they are, and tailoring treatment to their individual needs, strengths, and goals. My approach combines active listening, practical coping strategies, and evidence-based techniques to help clients build confidence, improve emotional regulation, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals and families who are open to exploring their emotions, gaining a better understanding of themselves, and developing healthier ways to navigate life's challenges. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship difficulties, or challenges with emotional regulation. Whether clients are seeking support during a difficult time or looking to grow personally, I strive to meet them where they are and help them build confidence, resilience, and practical skills to feel more empowered in their daily lives.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thought patterns, challenge negative beliefs, and develop healthier ways of thinking and responding to difficult situations.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach by creating a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and accepted. I meet clients where they are, respect their individual experiences and pace, and empower them to explore their emotions, recognize their strengths, and work toward goals that are meaningful to them.
Strength-Based
I also use a strengths-based approach by helping clients recognize their existing strengths, abilities, and resources rather than focusing solely on their challenges. I work collaboratively with clients to identify what is already working in their lives and build on those skills to navigate difficult situations. My goal is to empower clients to recognize their potential and feel more capable of managing challenges and achieving their personal goals.
