New to Grow
I'm a 54-year old grandfather, author, outdoorsman, and reader of books. I enjoy flying, biking, jogging, and visiting new places. I am a blogger with a wide range of interests. I am into healthy activities that strengthen mind and body alike and promote mental elasticity as I get older. The thing I enjoy the most is learning about other people and coming to appreciate each person's personal story.
We will do a thorough biopsychosocial assessment so that I can get an accurate idea of what the issues are and how I may be able to help. During that session, I will communicate unconditional positive regard, share the limits of my expertise, and discuss Informed Consent.
Historically, over a 24 year career (thus far) in counseling, my clients have most often reflected that they feel seen, heard, and most of all, accepted.
My ideal clients are those who believe change is possible, and who are willing to do the hard work of making those changes and recognizing that change begins within. Clients quickly learn that I approach treatment from two angles: empowerment and use of cognitive behavioral techniques to identify and counter negative ideations that are preventing the client from achieving self-actualization.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to uncover negative self-valuations and schema that entrap people in dysfunctional ways of thinking of both themselves and life's challenges.
