New to Grow
I’m Susan Garrett, LCSW, and owner of Empowered Bridges Counseling, LLC. I provide compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and relationship stress. My approach integrates EMDR, CBT, somatic therapy, and polyvagal-informed care to support healing, nervous system regulation, and meaningful change. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where clients feel accepted, empowered, and understood.
In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know you, what brings you to therapy, and what you hope to gain from our work together. We’ll review your history, current concerns, strengths, and goals at a pace that feels comfortable. My priority is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and not rushed.
I bring warmth, curiosity, and a calm, grounded presence to sessions. My approach stands out because I integrate EMDR, CBT, somatic therapy, and polyvagal-informed care to help clients understand both their thoughts and nervous system responses. I focus on creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, empowered, and able to move toward meaningful healing.
Other specialties
I identify as
EMDR
I use EMDR to help clients process traumatic experiences, distressing memories, emotional triggers, and negative beliefs that may still impact their daily lives. I am trained in EMDR with advanced trauma approaches, Recent Events Protocol, and group protocols. I take a trauma-informed and collaborative approach, focusing on safety, grounding, and nervous system regulation while helping clients reduce distress and strengthen more adaptive beliefs.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, to help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, better understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and develop healthier coping strategies. My approach is collaborative and practical, helping clients challenge negative beliefs, build insight, and create meaningful changes in their daily lives.
Polyvagal Therapy
I use Polyvagal Theory to help clients better understand how their nervous system responds to stress, trauma, and feelings of safety or threat. In practice, I support clients in recognizing their own nervous system states, building regulation skills, and developing tools to move toward greater calm, connection, and resilience.
Somatic
I use somatic psychotherapy to help clients better understand the connection between the body, emotions, and nervous system responses. In practice, I support clients in noticing body sensations, building grounding and regulation skills, and gently processing stress or trauma in a way that feels safe, paced, and empowering.
