Cheryl De Roca

LMHC20 years of experience

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington. I work with children, teens, adults, and families who feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally stuck, or worn down from trying to hold everything together. Many of the people I work with are neurodivergent, including those with ADHD or autism, or are living with long-standing stress or trauma. My style is warm, grounded, and practical. Therapy with me is not about fixing you. It is about helping you understand yourself more clearly and build skills that make daily life feel more manageable and less heavy.

First session

The first session is about getting oriented and grounded together. We will talk about what brought you in, what feels most pressing right now, and what you hope therapy can help with. I will ask thoughtful questions, but there is no pressure to share everything at once. We will begin noticing patterns in how stress, emotions, thoughts, routines, and relationships interact. By the end of the session, we will shape a direction for our work. My goal is for you to leave feeling clearer, less alone, and with a few practical ideas you can begin using right away. We will also talk openly about what you need from therapy so the process feels supportive and doable.

Strengths

Clients often tell me that I am easy to talk to and that they feel genuinely heard. I bring structure without rigidity and compassion without minimizing what is difficult. I am especially attuned to neurodivergent experiences and to how culture, identity, and long term stress affect mental health. My goal is to help you feel steadier, more trusting of yourself, and better equipped to navigate life as it is rather than feeling like you are always falling behind.

Ideal clients

You may be someone who thinks a lot, feels deeply, and keeps pushing through even when you are exhausted. On the outside, you might appear capable or put together, but inside you feel anxious, scattered, burned out, or unsure why things feel harder than they should. Many of my clients are navigating ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma, or major life transitions. Some feel frustrated with themselves for not being better by now. Others are parents who want calmer homes and clearer communication with their children. What they often share is a desire for understanding, relief, and support that fits real life rather than theory.

Treatment methods

Positive Psychology

I use Positive Psychology to help clients identify their strengths, values, and sources of meaning, especially during times of stress or transition. We focus not only on reducing symptoms but also on building resilience, confidence, and habits that support long-term well-being and life satisfaction.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I approach therapy with awareness of how culture, identity, family systems, and lived experiences shape how people see themselves and the world. I adapt treatment to honor your background, values, and context, ensuring therapy feels respectful, relevant, and aligned with who you are.

Compassion-Focused

Compassion-focused work helps reduce shame, harsh self-criticism, and emotional overwhelm. I support clients in developing self-kindness and emotional safety, while learning practical ways to regulate strong emotions and respond to challenges with greater balance and understanding.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a person-centered approach to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard and understood. Therapy moves at your pace, with empathy and collaboration guiding the work, so you can gain clarity, insight, and confidence in your own decisions.

Multicultural

Multicultural therapy recognizes the impact of race, ethnicity, gender, ability, socioeconomic status, and systemic factors on mental health. I integrate this awareness into our work so therapy supports both personal growth and the realities of your lived experience.
