New to Grow
Hello! My name is Kody and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia. I work with individuals and couples who are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or navigating significant life transitions. Many of my clients are women working to rediscover themselves, parents trying to find balance, individuals with ADHD seeking greater self-understanding, or couples wanting to strengthen communication and connection. My goal is to provide a supportive, down-to-earth space where clients feel understood, gain deeper self-awareness, build healthier coping skills and relationships, and create lasting change that helps them feel more confident, connected, and aligned with the life they want to live.
In our first meeting together, I’ll spend time getting to know you and what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns, background, and goals so I can better understand your experience and what support may be most helpful for you. We’ll also go over important information like confidentiality, what to expect from therapy, and answer any questions you may have. The goal is to create a comfortable space where you can begin to feel heard and supported, while we start building a clear direction for your work together.
What stands out about my approach is the balance of insight and practical support. I help clients understand the patterns and experiences contributing to their current struggles while also focusing on real, actionable strategies they can use in daily life. My work is collaborative, grounded, and tailored to each client, especially those navigating life transitions, ADHD, identity exploration, parenting stress, or relationship challenges. Clients often leave therapy with greater self-awareness, improved communication, and more confidence in making meaningful changes that align with the life they want.
My ideal clients are individuals and couples who feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain about themselves during seasons of change, stress, or personal growth. Many are navigating life transitions such as motherhood, relationship changes, career shifts, burnout, or struggles with balancing parenting, relationships, and everyday responsibilities. I especially enjoy working with women who are trying to reconnect with themselves, better understand their needs and identity, and break unhealthy personal or generational patterns. I also work with individuals who have ADHD (or suspect they might) and want support understanding how it impacts their emotions, relationships, self-esteem, communication, and daily functioning. For couples, I help partners improve communication, navigate conflict in healthier ways, rebuild connection, and strengthen their relationship so they can feel more supported, understood, and connected as a team.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
In our sessions, we would use ACT to help you respond to difficult thoughts and emotions in a healthier, more flexible way rather than feeling controlled by them or trying to avoid them. We would focus on increasing self-awareness, staying grounded in the present moment, and identifying what truly matters to you so you can take meaningful steps toward the life you want, even when things feel uncomfortable.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In our sessions, we would use CBT to help identify how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected and how certain patterns may be contributing to stress, anxiety, low mood, or other challenges. We would work on increasing awareness of unhelpful thought patterns, challenging them in a more balanced way, and developing healthier coping skills and behaviors that support your goals and overall well-being.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
In our sessions, I use a client-centered approach to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and accepted. We would focus on exploring your thoughts, emotions, and experiences openly, while helping you build greater self-awareness, confidence, and trust in yourself as you work toward growth and healing.
Psychodynamic
In our sessions, we may use a psychodynamic approach to explore how past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns may be impacting your current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. We would focus on increasing insight and self-awareness, helping you better understand recurring patterns, emotional responses, and underlying needs so you can make healthier and more intentional choices moving forward.
