La is invested in ongoing work to decolonize therapeutic practices in a relational, collaborative space where clients hold and cultivate personal power, receive support, and accountability, gain insight, and discover authentic living. La uses an integrated approach that includes relational and somatic (body-based) therapies that center Black, Indigenous and other POC, LGBTQIA2S+ [1] Relationship Therapy: Two or more gathered with a therapist to work on communication, connection, and relationship-- Traditional dyads, polycules, families, friends, or frienemies. [2] Neurodiversity Affirming Care: Learn how to thrive without trying to "rewrite your brain" or "cure" neurotype. Turns out, you're not actually broken. [3] Personal Development: Develop confidence and certainty. Deconstruct harm. Rewrite your story. [4] Queer, Trans & Gender Expansive Care: Whether you are exploring your identity or just need to exist without having to answer a bunch of questions, we got you covered. [5] Consensual Kink Affirming Sex and Relationship Care: A community of consent, constant communication, negotiation, and aftercare. [6] Therapy for Therapists: You need a space. There is one here for you. About 1/3 of my clients are therapists.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will get to know each other to see if working together makes sense. Show up however you feel comfortable. I promise to bring my authentic self into the room.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work in and with the communities I belong to. I didn't read about you in a book. I'm not here because I am curious. I do not have a cape on. I am just an actual queer, Black, AuDHD, alt, disabled human out here in these mean streets, making magic, mischief, and community. Come sit down with someone who gets it.

My treatment methods

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a body-based method for processing emotions and memories through eye movement. It can connect us to our emotions in a surprisingly accelerated and accessible way. Your practitioner will collaborate and process with you as you access internal support systems and resolve conflict.

Narrative

Our stories are central to understanding who we are, how we relate to others, and how we make meaning in our lives. Some stories have been told to us over and again until we believed them to be true. These stories have been written by people who love us and others who don't. Learning how to identify and re-write our stories can help us gain personal and community power. My goal as a therapist is to honor voices that historically have been ignored and conditioned to trail off mid-sentence because they see no one is listening. Keep going. We need you. I am listening.

Somatic

Soma means Body. Our bodies hold our memories and emotions and have been doing so since before we could use words. As we grow up, we spend much of our time learning to be still, to be silent, to match the tempo of desk work, to keep our heads down and our voices low. We have learned to prioritize 'using our words' and often become out of touch with how our body thinks and desires to express itself. Learning intuitive movement, we remember how to communicate, process, and heal ourselves with our bodies. We can release tension, trauma, and become more connected and grounded with our entire self. Somatic Parts work honors the complexity of the self. Through this work, we learn to build a compassionate relationship with each piece of who we are. Somatic therapies are about developing a meaningful connection to our bodies and the mind. In these sessions, you will be invited to pay attention to physical sensations, movements, and posture to gain insights into your emotional experiences. You will learn techniques that help you release tension, process trauma, and become more aware of your bodily responses to stress and emotions. If you've experienced trauma or anxiety, or have a history of feeling stuck, somatic therapy might be your jam.

Motivational Interviewing

We get stuck. We get discouraged. These things happen for many reasons, some of them out of our control. Some of them are still making us feel stuck from when we were kids, or in unbalanced power dynamics. All the energy and motivation we once had has been drained away. We are burned out emotionally, physically, spiritually. Motivational Enhancement is all about finding your spark again, giving yourself the chance to shine, and carefully cleaning off all the residue that keeps us feeling powerless.

Humanistic

Have you ever been in your head about something in a loop over and over, and the more you think about it the more wrapped up in that loop you get, or maybe you just feel stuck with no thoughts at all, but then as soon as you start talking about it out loud with a close and patient friend, things start to feel more sorted? You might be a verbal processor. Attunement processing allows for guided, intentional space to take an inventory of all the things you're pondering about, or stuck on. We will discover your values, desires, needs, and emotions by learning to properly hear yourself out. Once we have discovered details and desires we move forward with taking accommodated (realistically supported) action based on the evidence we collected from connecting to your thoughts and bringing them into harmony with your values.
