My name is Marissa Gilbert and I have been practicing for about 9 years. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work with you and support you in your journey of personal growth and healing. I want to create a safe space where you can come and express yourself in a supportive, non judgmental session. My approach to therapy depends on the client and where they are currently. I'm here to work with you, listen to your concerns and help you develop insights to navigate the challenges you maybe facing. Whether you need that extra support in depression, anxiety, family or your own self esteem I want to help you grow as a individual and empower you along the way. I try my best to be down to earth and real with clients so they can connect with me during their session. I find that when a client can walk away from the session saying that this was so easy or enjoyed their session that means we are moving in the right direction.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, I want you to come as you are. I want my clients to feel comfortable, seen and heard while in session. We will begin with introductions and getting to know each other. I want you to know you will have my undivided attention and that I am here for you to navigate your life. We will discuss why you have decided to take the next steps for therapy and what challenges you are facing. In the first session we will discuss how often you are wanting to be seen weekly, bi weekly or monthly. I understand that life comes and goes and my job is to be a sounding board to help no matter how often you need. I also understand that not every client and I will connect on their journey and I am always upfront and honest if I don't believe I am the best match for you. The goal is to make sure you are getting something out of therapy and connecting with the therapist so if I feel like another person can do that for you then I will refer you to another provider. It is okay that I do not connect with everyone but if I can help you find the person you need then I'm doing exactly what I can for you- just in a different way but yet still apart of your healing.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe a strength that I posses as a provider is to be transparent and authentic. I understand that you are here for guidance and though I may not have all the answers you are looking for my goal is to be real with you and where you are in this stage of your life. I want to be able to build trust, empower, model healthy communication and facilitate insight and growth with my clients. As a therapist I try to be open minded to what my clients feel and put myself in their shoes to help walk through the struggles they are facing so they do not feel alone. I want clients to understand that they can over come the obstacles they are facing and learn from the challenges.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I want to work with individuals who are struggling to take their next steps. This can look different for everyone and sometimes you need someone to help along the way. I want to create a safe space to help you navigate anxiety and stress, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, self esteem or grief. I want to allow clients to feel as they feel and express themselves.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. My approach to utilizing CBT in therapy is to help educate the client on the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and how changing one can impact the other. Identifying Cognitive Distortions and using Cognitive Restructuring to help reframe irrational and unhelpful beliefs in a more realistic way.

Strength-Based

Strength- Based Therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on promoting growth, resilience and wellbeing. Assessing client strengths and help them to identify times where strength was utilized to get through situations in their lives. Helping clients change their mindset and reframing challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. Instilling a positive outlook in situations so that clients can overcome what they are facing.

Humanistic

Humanistic Therapy created a client centered approach and emphasizes self exploration, personal growth and self actualization. I want to create a non judgmental space for the client that allows for empathy, genuineness and holistic perspective. This allows the client to foster mindfulness and presence in therapy by encourage clients to be fully present in the moment.
