I have been using EMDR for about a year now and with the right client, it was a great way of handling distress, anxiety and trauma. EMDR is safe and effective and it incorporates, among others, mindfulness, self-awareness, and strengthening oneself, all essential features that promote healing. The most exciting thing about EMDR is that the brain does all the work, thus a lot of talking is not necessary. My clients loved the results and, the best part, the benefits are long-lasting!!
CBT is a wonderful way of helping clients overcome patterns of unhealthy thinking and behaving, and empowering them to regain the control in their lives. I have been using CBT for three years and the most powerful takeaway my clients reported was the insight of how daily irrational thoughts and unrealistic expectations would lead to distress and other mental health issues. Fortunately, with CBT, they have gained strength to challenge their old beliefs and developed agency to take charge of their lives.
