New to Grow
With over 15 years of experience in the counseling field, I am passionate about helping individuals find healing, growth, and fulfillment in their lives. I provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported throughout their journey. I believe that each person is unique, which is why I take an individualized approach to therapy, tailoring treatment to each client's specific needs, strengths, and goals. My work is grounded primarily in Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping clients gain insight, develop effective coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Your first counseling session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a comfortable, trusting therapeutic relationship. We will discuss what brings you to counseling, your current concerns, relevant personal history, and your goals for therapy. This session also gives you the opportunity to ask questions about the counseling process and share any preferences or expectations you may have. I understand that starting therapy can feel intimidating, so I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can feel safe sharing at your own pace. There is no pressure to discuss everything during the first session. Instead, we will focus on understanding your unique situation and identifying ways we can work together to support your growth and well-being. By the end of the session, we will begin developing a plan tailored to your needs and goals, helping you take the first steps toward positive change, healing, and a more fulfilling life.
One of the greatest strengths I bring to the counseling relationship is my compassionate and nonjudgmental approach. I believe that every individual deserves to be heard, understood, and supported without fear of criticism or shame. My goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment where clients can openly explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. In addition to my professional experience, I understand that life can present unexpected challenges and transitions. Having navigated significant life changes myself, I recognize the importance of developing effective coping skills, resilience, and self-awareness in order to move forward and live a fulfilling life. This perspective allows me to connect with clients in an authentic and empathetic way while helping them identify practical strategies for overcoming obstacles and achieving their goals. I am committed to meeting clients where they are, recognizing their unique strengths, and empowering them to create meaningful and lasting change in their lives.
My ideal clients are adolescents (ages 12 and older), young adults, adults, and older adults who are seeking support as they navigate life's challenges and transitions. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, the effects of trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, stress, low self-esteem, or other emotional and behavioral concerns that interfere with their ability to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. I work with individuals who are motivated to better understand themselves, develop healthier coping skills, and create positive change. Whether facing a major life transition, recovering from past experiences, managing overwhelming emotions, or seeking personal growth, my clients are looking for a safe, supportive environment where they can explore their experiences and move toward healing. I believe that every individual has strengths that can be built upon to foster resilience and growth. Through a collaborative therapeutic relationship, I help clients gain insight, overcome obstacles, and develop the tools needed to improve their emotional well-being, strengthen relationships, and create a life that aligns with their values and goals.
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my counseling practice, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as an evidence-based approach to help clients identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking, emotional responses, and behaviors that may be contributing to distress. CBT is based on the understanding that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that developing awareness of these connections can lead to meaningful and lasting change. Through a collaborative and goal-oriented process, I work with clients to examine negative or distorted thought patterns, challenge self-defeating beliefs, and develop healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. Clients learn practical coping skills and strategies to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, trauma-related concerns, relationship difficulties, and other life challenges. My use of CBT is tailored to each individual's unique needs, strengths, and goals. Sessions often include skill-building, problem-solving, self-reflection, and between-session exercises that help clients apply new insights and techniques in their daily lives. By fostering increased self-awareness and resilience, CBT empowers clients to make positive changes, improve emotional well-being, and enhance overall functioning.
Christian Counseling
When requested by a client, I integrate Christian counseling principles into the therapeutic process in a manner that is respectful, client-centered, and consistent with the client's beliefs, values, and spiritual goals. Christian counseling is offered only at the client's request and is never imposed as part of treatment. Incorporating a Christian perspective may include exploring how faith, Scripture, prayer, spiritual practices, and a relationship with God can serve as sources of strength, guidance, healing, and resilience. I help clients examine life challenges through both psychological and spiritual lenses, integrating evidence-based counseling approaches with Christian values and teachings when appropriate. The extent of spiritual integration is determined collaboratively with each client and may involve discussions of faith-related concerns, forgiveness, grace, purpose, identity, relationships, and spiritual growth. Therapeutic interventions remain grounded in professional counseling standards while honoring the client's religious beliefs and preferences. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where clients can address emotional, relational, and spiritual concerns in a way that aligns with their faith and promotes overall well-being, personal growth, and healing.
Grief Therapy
In my counseling practice, I utilize grief therapy to support individuals who are coping with loss, bereavement, and significant life transitions. Grief can result from the death of a loved one as well as other losses, such as changes in relationships, health, employment, identity, or life circumstances. I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental environment where clients can safely process their thoughts, emotions, and experiences related to loss. Grief therapy recognizes that each person's grieving process is unique and does not follow a prescribed timeline. I help clients explore and express difficult emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and adapt to life changes while honoring the significance of their loss. Treatment may include processing memories, identifying sources of support, addressing feelings of guilt, anger, sadness, or anxiety, and exploring ways to maintain meaningful connections to loved ones while moving forward. Drawing from evidence-based therapeutic approaches, I tailor interventions to each client's needs, strengths, cultural background, and personal beliefs. My goal is to help clients navigate the challenges of grief, foster resilience, find meaning and hope, and ultimately integrate their loss into their ongoing life story in a healthy and adaptive way.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
In my counseling practice, I utilize Person-Centered Therapy to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, valued, and understood. This approach is based on the belief that individuals possess the capacity for growth, self-awareness, and positive change when provided with the right therapeutic conditions. Through empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard, I work collaboratively with clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and personal challenges. Rather than directing the counseling process, I strive to meet clients where they are, helping them gain insight into their experiences and identify solutions that align with their values, strengths, and goals. Person-Centered Therapy emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for healing and growth. By fostering a trusting and accepting atmosphere, I encourage clients to develop greater self-acceptance, confidence, and autonomy. This approach can be particularly beneficial for individuals seeking to improve self-esteem, navigate life transitions, strengthen relationships, process emotional difficulties, and enhance overall well-being. I tailor the counseling process to each client's unique needs and circumstances, supporting them in discovering their own path toward personal growth, resilience, and meaningful change.
