Katherine Eyegue-Sandy
I'm Dr. Katherine Eyegue-Sandy, a doctoral-prepared, board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with more than 15 years of experience as a nurse practitioner. I specialize in psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy, and I have the privilege of working with clients across the full lifespan. I see children ages 6 and older, adolescents, adults, and older adults because I believe that every stage of life deserves thoughtful, compassionate, expert mental health care. What sets my practice apart is that I bring the whole picture into the room. I don't see you as a diagnosis or a checklist of symptoms. I see a whole person with a unique story, real strengths, and an incredible capacity to heal and grow. My care is holistic, culturally responsive, and deeply empowering. I want you to leave every session feeling more clear, more grounded, and more equipped than when you walked in. You deserve that and I am here to help make it possible.
First session
Your first session is all about you; your story, your struggles, and what has brought you to this moment. Whether you are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, substance use, or simply a weight you can no longer carry alone, you will step into a space that is warm, safe, nonjudgmental, and completely yours. I will never make you feel like a case file. From the moment we connect, my intention is for you to feel genuinely heard, deeply respected, and truly understood, perhaps in a way you haven't felt in a long time. During our first session, I conduct a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation but please don't let that sound intimidating. It is really a rich, meaningful conversation where I take the time to understand you fully. We will explore your current concerns and symptoms, your mental health and medical history, the lifestyle factors that shape your day-to-day experience, and most importantly, your personal goals for treatment. I want to know not just what you are struggling with, but who you are and where you want to go. By the end of our time together, you will have a clearer understanding of what you are experiencing, and we will begin building a care plan that is thoughtfully designed around your life, your strengths, and your vision for healing. You will not leave with more confusion or uncertainty. You will leave with clarity, with a real plan, and with the knowledge that you no longer have to carry this alone. That is my promise to you from day one.
Strengths
My approach is holistic, solution-oriented, and empowering. I combine psychiatric expertise with psychotherapeutic support so that we can address both the biological and emotional dimensions of your mental health, so you never have to choose one over the other. True healing, in my experience, happens when we treat the whole person, not just the presenting problem. I practice from a trauma-informed, culturally responsive lens, meaning I honor your background, your identity, and your lived experience as central to your care. Together, we identify what is standing between you and the life you deserve, and we build practical, personalized strategies to move you forward at a pace that feels right for you. I believe you already carry more resilience than you realize. My role is to help you access it, build on it, and use it to create lasting, meaningful change.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve clients across the full lifespan form children ages 6 and older, adolescents, adults, and older adults, who are ready to take a meaningful step toward healing and well-being. My ideal clients are those navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, substance use challenges, or difficult life transitions. They may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or misunderstood and they are looking for a provider who will finally take the time to truly see them, hear them, and walk alongside them. I work best with individuals who are open to a holistic, whole-person approach to care those who want more than a quick fix, and who are willing to actively participate in their own healing journey. Whether you are seeking medication management, psychotherapy, or a thoughtful combination of both, I meet you exactly where you are and build a plan around your unique goals, strengths, and life circumstances. I have a particular heart for clients who have felt dismissed or overlooked by the healthcare system. If you have ever left an appointment feeling rushed or unheard, you will find something different here, a warm, nonjudgmental space where your story matters and your goals drive everything we do together. If you are ready for compassionate, expert care that empowers you to reclaim your mental health and live the life you deserve, I would be honored to support you.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the foundational tools I use to help clients understand the powerful connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. At its core, CBT is about empowerment, helping you recognize patterns of thinking that may be keeping you stuck, and replacing them with healthier, more balanced ways of seeing yourself and the world around you. In my practice, I integrate CBT in a way that feels natural and collaborative, never clinical or rigid. Together, we identify the thought patterns and beliefs that are fueling your anxiety, depression, trauma responses, or behavioral challenges, and we work systematically to challenge and reframe them. I pair this with practical, real-world strategies and skills you can use between sessions, because healing happens in everyday life, not just in the therapy room. I use CBT across all age groups, adapting my approach to fit the developmental needs and communication style of each client. With younger clients, this may look more interactive and creative. With adolescents and adults, we dive deeper into self-awareness, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral activation. With older adults, I apply CBT in ways that honor their life experience and address the unique challenges that come with aging. CBT is particularly effective for anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and substance use challenges, many of the concerns I see most often in my practice. When combined with medication management where appropriate, the results can be truly transformative. My goal is always for you to walk away from our work together not just feeling better, but equipped with skills and insights that serve you for life.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than feeling controlled by them. We explore personal values, practice acceptance and mindfulness skills, and identify meaningful actions that support the life the client wants to build. This approach can be especially helpful for anxiety, depression, stress, and major life transitions.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their goals, concerns, and readiness for change in a supportive and nonjudgmental way. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I help them identify their own reasons for making positive changes and build confidence in their ability to move forward.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I incorporate mindfulness techniques to help clients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical responses in the present moment. We may use grounding, breathing exercises, and other mindfulness strategies to reduce anxiety, manage stress, improve emotional regulation, and respond to difficult situations with greater awareness and intention.
Supportive
I use supportive therapy to provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients can openly discuss their experiences and challenges. I offer validation, encouragement, problem-solving, and practical coping strategies while helping clients recognize their strengths and build greater confidence in managing stress, relationships, and everyday life.
