Rhonda Lake
Hello, I’m Rhonda Lake. I am a Christian therapist with 14 years’ experience helping clients work through stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, dissociation, and overwhelming emotions. I use evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Somatic therapies, and principles from the Bible and Neuroscience to support meaningful and lasting change. A key part of my work involves integrating neuroscience, a cutting edge understanding of how God created the mind- body connection, its’ response to life’s challenges and its ability to change our lives.

Strengths
I am a certified complex trauma therapist, EMDR and Neuropsychotherapist . Trauma is when we experience very stressful, frightening or distressing events that are difficult to cope with or out of our control. It could be one incident such as a car accident, or an ongoing event such as neglect or abuse (past or present) that happens over a long period of time. Most of us will experience an event in our lives that could be considered traumatic. But we won't all be affected the same way. Trauma can happen at any age. And it can affect us at any time, including a long time after the event has happened. Traumatic experiences are so overwhelming that parts of the brain go offline while others go into overdrive, and as a result, your brain fails to process the traumatic event and integrate it into the timeline of your life, as it would any other experience. Consequently, the trauma never becomes part of the past; it’s ever-present (as evidenced by the pervasive flashbacks and near-constant state of fight or flight). EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR Therapy is a psychological treatment based on the idea that negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors stem from unprocessed memories of stressful or traumatic experiences. The structured treatment focuses simultaneously on a) an upsetting issue or traumatic memory and its associated thoughts, feelings and sensations, and b) bilateral stimulation that is most commonly in the form of repeated eye movements. EMDR is well known to help clients with Trauma/PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and more. Neuroscience is not only a cutting-edge therapy, but also a key component to assist in bringing healing and change for a client. Understanding the impact of life experiences on the brain and body is essential for developing effective treatment strategies. Neuropsychotherapy helps in other such as anxiety Depression OCD and more. Furthermore, Neuroscience gives us an understanding of how God created the mind- body connection, its’ response to life’s challenges and its ability to change our lives.

Treatment methods
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an advanced evidence‑based psychotherapy used to treat trauma, anxiety, overwhelming life experiences and feelings. One of the goals in session is to safely walk you through the EMDR process so that you might fully process these events that have been stuck in your body reducing emotional distress and enabling a client to feel less distressed, more safe, and hopeful for the future.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
One of the core foundations of cognitive behavioral therapy CBT Is challenging distorted thought patterns. Since the basis of CBT is based on the brain and mind (our thoughts and behaviors) I integrate Neuropsychotherapy into my practice. Neuroscience is a cutting edge understanding of how God created the brain and body and its’ response to stress, trauma and life’s challenges. By exploring the mind- body connection, clients learn how emotional and behavioral patterns are formed, and how the brain can be rewired (renewed) by creating new neural pathways. This knowledge and understanding can empower clients with tools for regulation, healing, and long-term change.
Somatic
Somatic means body. What happens to you affects your spirit, soul and body. The nervous system communicates somatic memories of trauma between the brain and all other parts of the body. When the memories of trauma are stored as sensations, similar sensations can trigger these memories, causing what is known as state-dependent recall of the trauma. Your body can remember a trauma that your conscious mind is not remembering. There are many tools to explore to work through the memories in he body.
Christian Counseling
I believe my counseling sessions include three components, You, me, and the Holy Spirit. I believe there is healing power through God's Word and the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I will not beat you over the head with the bible but minster with grace and love as the Holy Spirit leads :0)
