LPC, 7 years of experience
New to Grow
Hi, I’m Sandra Smith, a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I specialize in supporting adults navigating anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, generational trauma, life transitions, and the unique challenges that come with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My approach is simple: create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can share your story, at your own pace, in your own way. I believe healing happens when we feel truly heard and understood. In our sessions, I take a collaborative, client-centered approach. That means I listen deeply, help you identify areas of growth, and together we’ll set meaningful, personalized goals that support healing, empowerment, and lasting positive change. I do this work because: - I come from a Caribbean background and have seen firsthand the impact of generational trauma. - I have a child with autism, which fuels my passion for advocating and providing mental health support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—a group often overlooked in the mental health world. - My strong background in crisis counseling and intervention taught me how resilient people truly are, even in their hardest moments. But outside of my professional role, I’m a regular person too! In my free time, you’ll find me crocheting, reading, cooking, spending time with family, or playing with my cats 🐾 Henry and Chuck. I believe life is about balance, and I encourage my clients to discover the small joys that keep them grounded. At the core, I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and live their best life. If you’re ready to take that step, I’d be honored to walk alongside you in your journey.
During our first session the goal is to make sure I have a good understanding of what is bringing you to therapy and how I can support you in meeting your treatment goals before we start the therapy process.
Seven years experience providing therapy, three of those years were spent providing in crisis counseling and crisis intervention; and I also have fifteen years experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers. I am deeply passionate about my work, believing wholeheartedly that everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and live their best life. My clients benefit from my ability to create an encouraging space where they can achieve lasting positive change.
In my practice, I am committed to providing a collaborative, client-centered approach that is tailored to meet my client’s unique needs.
I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my practice to help my clients explore their negative thoughts and how these thoughts affect their emotions and experiences. Then I will help my client learn how to push back against those negative thoughts to change their thinking resulting in feeling better.
