New to Grow
I am passionate about the therapeutic relationship as a way of not only understanding ourselves better and working towards personal wellness but also understanding the nature of human relating and the wellness of our relationships. I believe that the therapeutic process can be of service not only to the client but to the circles of community and society that surround the client. As we learn more about ourselves through therapy, and about how best to thrive, we also learn about how to take part in being in the world in a way that can offer a little bit more thriving to those around us. I am trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as several other evidence-based trauma treatment models, including the Social Resilience Model (a neurologically- and mindfulness-based approach to working with trauma and other types of anxiety). Additionally, I am a certified provider of ACT, DBT, and CBT. I also have advanced training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy, an attachment-theory-based treatment. I have found that an attachment-based lens provides a tremendous amount of clarity to the counseling process. Hablo español y he estado proporcionando services de terapia en español por más que 15 años.
Along with an interpersonal process focus, an additional priority of my practice is to do work that is as "client-centered" and culturally-responsive as possible. This means that my job as your therapist is to learn the perspectives, values, and style of communication and learning that you bring to the therapeutic process and to allow those things to guide our work together.
My doctoral research was in the area of eco-psychology, which is the interdisciplinary study of the emotional and psychological bond between humans and the natural world. I received my yoga teacher certification through the Integrative Yoga Therapy training program, as well as training from the University of California San Diego as an instructor of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and am a longtime practitioner of mindfulness meditation. I have taught meditation and therapeutic yoga to groups and individuals throughout my fifteen years as a therapist.
I consider it a privilege to work with any client who is willing to engage in the therapy process. My many years of experience as a therapist in a number of different settings has allowed me to build skills for working with a lot of different client needs in therapy. I love working with a wide variety of client needs.
