New to Grow
Hi, my name is Lauren Mintz. I am married with three kids, two dogs, and two cats. I was a social worker for 5 years before I went back to school to get my masters. I have been a therapist for 5 years now, and I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. I would be honored to be your therapist. As your therapist, I will listen without judgement and give you a space you will feel understood, gain insight, and work toward changes you would like to see in your life.
At the start of the first session, we will do introductions and develop your goals and understand your need. Building rapport and getting to know you is part of the therapeutic process. The first session is based on your need. Some clients want to share history during the first session and other clients want to get straight to their concern. Some clients only want one or two sessions total and others want a longer therapeutic relationship.
You have all the strength and wisdom within you and it is my job to pull this out. Learning more about yourself and becoming more compassionate toward yourself is where change and healing starts. Sessions will feel natural and conversational. They will also be productive, you will gain insight, and meet your personal goals. I will adjust my approach based on your personality and needs. This may mean that some sessions I will hold more space by listening and understanding while other sessions I may challenge you more. I will ask for feedback on what was helpful or not helpful so I can continue to meet your needs and use the approach most effective for you.
I am open to working with all people and ages. You are the expert in yourself and your life. My role is to learn about you, your life, your struggles, your goals etc. As we build our therapeutic relationship, I will be able to assist you in gaining insight and meeting your goals. People who are open to make changes will see more progress toward their goals. This could be behavior changes or changes in their thoughts. Venting can be helpful, but therapy goes past venting and challenges you to reflect on your emotions, where they are coming from, and what you want to do with those emotions. People open to this reflection and growth will see an increase in resilience and self compassion. When working with children and teenagers, I use play and games because play is how kids explore, learn, and understand their world. Kids and teens open to participating in sessions will progress faster. I do have the patience for kids and teens who are more resistant, maybe due to nervousness, anger, defiance, or distractions. Progress may move a little slower in the beginning as we built rapport.
I use CBT skills in order help you understand the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and then make changes and reframe based on your goals.
I use ACT skills to help you accept the things you cannot control and build resilience and strength to live with those things.
I use MI skills to help you move through the stages of change so you can meet your goals.
I use mindfulness skills to teach emotion regulation and how to live in the present moment in order to reduce negative emotions and increase positive thoughts.
