My name is Alexandria LaMont, M.S, NCC, LPC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor currently licensed and practicing in the state of Georgia. Although I am now considered a southern gal, I am a city girl at heart. I was born and raised in Brooklyn/Queens, New York in a multi-cultural (Puerto Rican / African American) household. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Spelman College located in Atlanta, GA. I also received my Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. I consider myself to be a “non-traditional” counselor due to my unique approach to therapy and authentic personality. I am dedicated to destigmatizing, normalizing and advocating for mental health and wellness across underserved and marginalized communities. I am very passionate about helping others become the best version of themselves. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, traveling, art, listening to music and engaging in intentional self-care.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions to begin to build rapport and make sure we are good fit. Then we will explore background, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing as well as expectations and therapy goals. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I would describe myself as an “eclectic non-traditional counselor dedicated to advocating for mental health and wellness within diverse communities”. I strongly believe that “one size does not fit all”. Meaning one single type of therapy, intervention/theory will not work for every individual. My greatest strengths as a provider include building therapy sessions around one’s current needs, being present and authentic. I am passionate about creating an inclusive, comfortable, safe and supportive environment by establishing healthy boundaries. My primary goals with clients are to build resiliency, promote independency and self advocacy, build confidence in decision-making, address traumas, establish healthy boundaries, and promote self-compassion/care.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have experience working with clients with trauma, anxiety, depression, bipolar- disorder, borderline personality disorder, PTSD, domestic violence, sexual abuse. I enjoy working with individuals, families, couples and groups of all ages, identities and cultural backgrounds committed to their journey towards becoming their best self. My clients are eager to learn, improve, but don't yet have the tools, consistency or support needed to make this goal a reality. My goal is to create a safe environment and therapeutic relationship that fosters growth and wellness.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a structured, and evidence-based talking therapy that can help individuals manage mental and emotional health issues. In session I utilize CBT to assist clients in identifying and challenge negative or inaccurate thoughts, and learn to think and behave in more effective ways. It's based on the idea that negative thinking is a habit that can be changed.

Trauma Informed Care

I have worked as a victim advocate in my local community for the past 5 years assisting individuals that experience forms sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking and or exploitation. In addition, I have 4 years of experience providing counseling services to diverse individuals who have experienced various forms of trauma. Trauma Informed Care is one of my foundational practices. TIC essentially promotes healing, resilience, and well-being. It reduces practices that may cause stress or remind individuals of trauma, and encourages creation of environments that support safety, empowerment, and recovery. Trauma Informed Care acknowledges the need to understand a individuals life experiences in order to provide effective care.

Eclectic

I am a firm believer that every patient is different and what may work for one client may not work for another. Eclectic therapy is a type of psychotherapy that uses a variety of techniques to treat each patient's unique needs. In session, I use a multi-modal approach and utilize research evidence-based interventions and techniques access various counseling theories.

Psychoeducation

Knowledge is Power and Awareness is Key! Psychoeducation is a key component in my practice. Psychoeducation is a therapeutic intervention that teaches individuals about mental health and how to cope. When utilizing this intervention it educates individuals on symptoms, emotions, habits, cycles/patterns etc. they may be experiencing. It's based on the idea that if you know better you do better.
