Tara Buchy
Hello! My name is Tara, and I am a licensed independent social worker. My approach is collaborative and down-to-earth. I'm not the kind of therapist who sits silently nodding for an hour. I'll meet you where you are, ask honest questions, and bring warmth (and yes, sometimes humor and play) into our work together. Healing doesn't have to be heavy all the time.
First session
During our first session, I will find out about you as a person, what concerns are bringing you to therapy, and learn more about how I can personalize your experience in therapy to be helpful and supportive.
Strengths
Throughout my time working in schools, I have understood the importance of seeing the issues you are having from all directions. I understand that it's not just you- challenges and unexpected changes are happening all around you. In a world of things out of your control, my strength is helping you find what you do have control over and can change. I feel passionate about helping you feel empowered and more secure. If I think you are more capable than you give yourself credit for, I will push back on your self-doubt and self-criticism.
Ideal clients
From my time working in schools, I have found that I love partnering with clients who are open to growing and creating a better life for themselves. Whether you feel stuck, hopeless, overwhelmed, or exhausted- my passion lies in helping you see the bright future ahead and find things that will make you feel like yourself again. I have the most experience in working alongside teenagers and young adults.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT methods to help you gain a deeper understanding of how your mind works and to challenge patterns that are holding you back.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use components of DBT to help you improve your relationships and walk away with concrete skills.
Grief Therapy
I create space in therapy for you to move through the complexities of grief and find self-compassion for all that you have been through.
Motivational Interviewing
I encourage you to evaluate your behavioral patterns and rely on the abilities you already have to make changes and create a better life for yourself.
Psychoeducation
I teach you about the way your brain works and processes stress, so you can stop blaming yourself for holding patterns you find yourself in.
