Amy Knapp
Outside of work, I am someone who loves exploring the world, whether through travel, camping trips, or simply spending time outdoors with my family. I enjoy discovering new places, trying new activities, and creating meaningful memories with loved ones. Spending time in nature and with family helps me stay grounded and balanced, and these experiences inspire my approach to life, personal growth, and the connections I build with others.
First session
In our first session, we’ll spend time getting to know what brings you to therapy and what you’d like to get out of it. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns, background, and any goals you have, while also giving you space to share at your own pace. We’ll begin identifying areas to focus on and talk through what working together might look like. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, supported, and leave with a clearer sense of direction for next steps.
Strengths
What stands out about my approach is that it’s practical, collaborative, and tailored to each client’s unique needs. My work focuses on real-life results, helping clients manage anxiety, navigate conflict, and develop healthier habits that create lasting, meaningful change. I also prioritize creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful progress.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to support adults and couples navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, and substance use concerns. I work well with clients who may feel stuck in patterns, are dealing with stress related to life transitions or legal involvement, or are trying to rebuild trust and stability in their lives. I also enjoy working with mothers who are struggling to balance family, work, and personal needs. I support moms who feel overwhelmed, burned out, or stretched thin in finding practical ways to manage stress, set boundaries, and regain a sense of stability. I often work with individuals who are unsure about change or feel ambivalent, helping them gain clarity, build motivation, and develop healthier coping strategies. I also support couples looking to improve communication, reduce conflict, and strengthen their connection. My approach is practical and goal-focused, making it a good fit for clients who are ready to make meaningful changes, even if they’re not sure where to start.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is used to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected, especially when it comes to anxiety, relationship conflict, and substance use. I work with individuals and couples to identify triggers, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and build healthier coping and communication skills. My approach is practical, collaborative, and focused on helping clients make real-life changes they can sustain.
Couples Counseling
Working with couples to improve communication, rebuild trust, and better understand each other’s needs and patterns. Helping partners identify negative cycles, navigate conflict more effectively, and develop healthier ways of connecting. Guiding couples in having more productive conversations, increasing accountability, and strengthening emotional safety. My approach is collaborative and focused on practical tools couples can use in their daily interactions to create lasting change.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their ambivalence about change and strengthen their internal motivation. Rather than pushing change, I meet clients where they are and support them in identifying their own reasons for making shifts. This approach is especially helpful for clients working through substance use, anxiety, or life transitions. I focus on building confidence, increasing insight, and helping clients move toward meaningful, self-directed change at their own pace.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
Solution-focused approach to help clients identify their strengths and build on what is already working. Rather than staying stuck on problems, I support clients in setting clear, realistic goals and taking small, meaningful steps toward change. In sessions, I focus on practical strategies, highlighting progress, and helping clients recognize their ability to create positive change in their lives. This approach is especially helpful for clients seeking forward movement and immediate, actionable tools.
