About me

Hi! I'm Ceylan . My name is pronounced "Jay-lahn". I'm Turkish. Are you dissatisfied with your life? Your relationships? Your work? Are you over-thinking? Are you beating yourself up? Are you struggling to make decisions about how to move forward to build the life you really want? Maybe you even know what you want but you are blocked somehow from moving forward? Therapy is a wonderful place to explore and overcome what is standing in your way. Whether you have unresolved trauma which created thoughts and behaviors which are no longer helpful to you. Or you’re struggling to connect to others and unable to form and keep supportive and meaningful relationships. Maybe your daily habits, or even addictions, are keeping you from being your best self. For over 13 years now, I have been supporting folks in their mental health recovery journey by creating a safe space to explore what it would take to have a fulfilling and meaningful life. Much of this journey involves clarifying and aligning with personal core values, improving relationships, and implementing healthier and more enjoyable coping skills and daily routines. I know the real you is in there, possibly blocked by self-doubt and unhelpful thoughts that could be saying "who do you think you are to ask for more?" You have one precious and fleeting life! Let’s explore together how to make the most of it. I believe in you!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, I like to roll up our sleeves, jump right in together, discuss what is currently causing you discomfort, and begin to form a plan together of what would be helpful to to bring you some relief. My hope is that you are able to complete the PHQ9 (depression assessment) and the GAD7 (anxiety assessment), as well as the intake form, before our initial meeting. If not, we will spend the beginning of our first sessions completing those assessments and the intake form. I will also complete a trauma symptoms assessment if that applies to you. I am also open to you asking me any questions about myself, my philosophy/methods, or experience you may have. Most folks report feeling a sense of relief and some increase in feelings of hopefulness at the end of our first session. It feels good to get some of this heavy stuff off your chest finally!

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have gained a very wide range of clinical experience over 13 years in a variety of settings. I have experience supporting folks who are struggling with depression, anxiety, unresolved trauma/PTSD, grief and loss, and relationship issues. However, my greatest strength, I believe, is my own life experiences. I have survived much relationship conflict, known great love, and experienced a great deal of loss. I have raised 4 children to adulthood. I have learned some very difficult lessons, more than once and usually the hard way, and fought very hard to rise back up several times. My life experiences keep me humble and keep me from ever judging others negatively. I am capable of sitting with clients in dark, confusing, and difficult places with the utmost respect, calm hopefulness, and unconditional positive regard.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I know sometimes therapists say they have an ideal client but I just don't think that way. Humans are complicated and often messy. Come as you are! I will meet you, and fully accept you, wherever that is.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) uses many cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, including present moment awareness/mindfulness , committed action/behavioral activation, and challenging unhelpful thoughts, to promote psychological flexibility to manage difficult feelings and experiences. A big part of acceptance and commitment therapy is also clarifying personal core values and aligning our day to day lives with our values in order to alleviate suffering and to build a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I also find that DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) techniques and skills are very helpful. These include mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness (our ability to interact and communicate effectively with others).

Ceylan has been the best therapist I have ever worked with. She has so much insight into the world and is always so positive. She is the sweetest person anyone could ever know, and she has helped me get through a lot of difficult times and situations. I truly admire her in the way she thinks, enjoys life, and sets boundaries. She is such an intelligent, kind, and strong woman and I hope that she gets the proper recognition she deserves.
