New to Grow
Hi, I’m Tawana Farley, a trauma therapist passionate about helping adults navigate life’s most overwhelming experiences with compassion, authenticity, and practical support. I specialize in working with complex trauma, grief, neurodivergence, and life transitions. I have a strong background in trauma-focused care and specialize in supporting individuals who feel stuck in survival mode, and are just tired from carrying the long-term effects of chronic stress or painful experiences. I also have experience working with neurodivergent individuals, and caregivers. My professional background includes providing therapy in non-profit settings, school-based settings, and trauma-informed environments. I am trained in EMDR and utilize evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s individual needs. My work is deeply rooted in helping clients understand the connection between the mind, body, nervous system, and emotional experiences. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients grant me the privilege of entering into their world. My goal is to gently help you explore your edges, deepen your understanding of yourself, and support you in feeling truly seen, heard, and supported throughout your healing journey.
The first session is all about creating a comfortable space for you to share your story, concerns, and goals at your own pace. Clients can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where they do not have to have everything “figured out” before starting therapy. During the first session, we will talk about what brings you to therapy, the challenges you have been experiencing, your history, strengths, and what you hope to gain from the therapeutic process. I will also answer any questions you may have about therapy and work collaboratively with you to begin identifying goals and areas of focus. Most importantly, the first session is about building connection and helping you feel safe, heard, and supported. Therapy can feel vulnerable at first, so I prioritize meeting clients where they are and moving at a pace that feels manageable and respectful of their comfort level.
Clients often describe me as warm, open-minded, and easy to talk to while also providing structure and direction when needed. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and supported. My strengths include building strong therapeutic relationships, helping clients make connections between past experiences and present challenges, and balancing insight with practical tools that clients can apply in their daily lives. I believe in meeting clients where they are while encouraging growth at a pace that feels both manageable and meaningful.
I am best positioned to support adults and couples navigating trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and neurodiversity-related concerns. Many of my clients feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, overwhelmed by stress, or impacted by difficult experiences from the past. I work well with individuals who are ready to gain insight, develop practical coping strategies, improve relationships, and create meaningful change in their lives. Together, we focus on building resilience, increasing self-understanding, and moving toward lasting healing and growth.
Other specialties
I identify as
EMDR
I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients process difficult experiences that may still feel emotionally overwhelming. EMDR can help reduce the intensity of painful memories, negative beliefs, anxiety, and trauma responses so clients can move forward with greater confidence and peace.
Grief Therapy
I help clients navigate grief related to the loss of loved ones, relationships, life transitions, health changes, and other significant experiences. Together, we create space to process emotions, honor what has been lost, and find ways to move forward while staying connected to what matters most.
Couples Counseling
I help couples improve communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and strengthen their emotional connection. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns and develop healthier ways of understanding and supporting one another.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My approach to CBT is focused on helping clients work with their brains rather than against them. Together, we build strategies for organization, emotional regulation, task completion, and self-compassion while recognizing and leveraging each person's unique strengths.
