New to Grow
Hi there! My name is Becca Thompson, and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker - Clinical Practice in the state of South Carolina. In graduate school, I specialized in child welfare. Since then, I have had diverse experiences in the social work world as a case manager and therapist. My passion is serving individuals processing grief and trauma, including abuse and child loss. Outside of therapy, I am a full-time hospital social worker. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three cats, trying new things, and spending time outdoors.
Our first session together is an opportunity to begin the therapeutic relationship by focusing on emotional safety and client autonomy. I will take time to get to know you, while you to learn about my style as a therapist. Together, we will go through what therapy looks like, formulate goals, and begin to explore your history. In the first session, I am also interested in hearing about things that worked or did not work in any past therapy you have experienced. I want you to feel safe and supported as we begin this journey together.
As a therapist, I have seen tremendous growth for clients seeking therapy with an open mind and a desire to engage. You are the one doing the work in therapy, while I have the privilege of joining you on your journey. It is important to me that my clients know they are in control of their treatment while feeling safe, supported, and encouraged.
I am open to working with clients ages 13 and up. I have a passion for working with individuals who are processing grief and trauma. Together, we will decide a treatment path that best fits your needs. I am flexible and collaborative in our work together. My goal is to meet your needs in the best way possible to serve you in your therapeutic journey. I welcome feedback and encourage my clients to speak up regarding their needs as we work together.
Other specialties
I identify as
Attachment-based
My approach to therapy is rooted in attachment theory. Our earliest relationships shape the way we connect with ourselves and those around us. Together, we can explore patterns in relationships to strengthen self-worth, increase feelings of emotional safety, and foster healthy connections.
EMDR
EMDR is an incredible evidence-based modality of therapy used to propel the healing process with a focus on emotional safety. I use EMDR to help clients process distressing experiences and deeply rooted negative beliefs to lessen the impact of trauma and increase adaptive beliefs and coping responses.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I use Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques to help clients make sense of emotional patterns and build more connected relationships. Emotionally Focused Therapy is also beneficial in couples therapy to help identify cycles of behavior, strengthen communication, and deepen trust.
Grief Therapy
There is no "right" way to grieve. My goal is to create a space for clients to process their grief without the fear of judgement by creating emotional safety within the therapeutic relationship.
Trauma Informed Care
I am a trauma-informed therapist, meaning I take a holistic view of an individual and their experiences to better understand how trauma has created adaptive responses. Together, we will build a collaborative relationship that focuses on emotional safety and self-empowerment in order to further the healing journey.
