(she/her)
I have been a social worker for more than 20 years working with culturally diverse men, women 18 years and older with a variety of different mental health, substance use and other life challenges. I have worked in a variety of settings from hospitals to community-based programs. I enjoy helping people in their journey as much as I did when I first came into this profession. What I believe and know is that it is possible for us as human beings to make positive changes when the necessary support is provided.
Whether you are new to therapy, or you have a lot of experience, a person can still feel a little anxious to start. In our first session I will take time to get to know you, to understand your decision to engage in therapy and discover your goals. There will be no judgement, it will be a safe place for you to share about your life stressors.
In my approach I am supportive, provide guidance, recognize the strengths that already exist within and want you to know I will be your cheerleader as you navigate the challenges that arise in life.
If you are ready to make changes in your life, if you're struggling to figure out the next steps to take, or tired of doing it alone. Then reach out to me so we can begin this journey together to find the calm, peace and joy that you deserve in your life.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
To be effective in helping you, it is important for me to understand who you are in the context of your culture. This involves understanding family dynamics, your ethnic background, beliefs systems, spirituality, how you view yourself within this context and how this may impact your journey.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Most of my work with clients involves the use of CBT. Often our thoughts have much to do with our behaviors. If you think positive or negative about yourself, it can directly impact what you may believe you are capable of achieving in life. Thru the use of CBT, it can assist in the process of learning how to better integrate your thoughts and behaviors to work toward reaching your life goals
Compassion Focused
Being compassionate to ourselves and others is an important building block to any work we do as human beings. Therefore, this is a major aspect of what I integrate into counseling sessions to help you foster acceptance of your strengths and weaknesses as you continue to work on yourself.
Strength-Based
I believe strongly that each person has a wealth of strengths that exist within. I understand that you may not always recognize your strengths. Therefore, that would be my supportive role in working with you to help you tap into these strengths as you work on stressors in your journey.
Motivational Interviewing
In using motivational techniques, I understand this is a partnership of us working together and helping you stay motivated to make changes in your life.
