I am a therapist that likes to set goals and work towards getting clients the changes they are seeking: To feel better and to see positive changes in their lives. We will begin by talking and processing the issues and then figuring out what would be most helpful. I believe in listening to what my clients need an developing an individualized approach for each person. Clients would describe me as warm, open, non-directive, and affirming. I ask lots of questions to create further exploration and insight. I believe that the client is the director of his/ her own life and the therapist is a facilitator to help them get to deeper truths within. I work with clients to uncover root causes and treat the deeper issues, not just the symptoms. We come away from sessions with a plan of action for improvement.
In our first session, I will have you talk about your story aka what brings you to therapy. It is normal to have some anxiety on the first session and not know what to say. Don't worry, I will ask you questions to help to bring out the things that you feel are important to talk about. This gives me understanding of what you are needing, which is important. I will also want to know about your general background to give me context about your needs. Finally, we will set some goals for what you want in therapy, answering the questions: What would you like to be, have, or feel at the end of therapy? This is a basic summary of the first session.
I feel my greatest strengths are helping client's feel listened to safe, and exploring feelings. Another thing that I feel I do well is helping client's to understand why we are using certain tools and how they work. I am big on education. Finally, I am good at sticking to the goals clients set and creating traction towards progress.
I work with clients who are ready for true change. They have tried things on their own and realize they need help and are willing to put in the work. This doesn't mean that we don't take things a step at a time, it means that the individual is ready to come with an open mind for trying something different.

I picked Tonya because she was African American and had kids . I do not regret it at all ; she’s very open minded and helps me with things I never thought I would be working on. She is very understanding & more helpful than she knows. She’s helping me unlock things I never thought I would.
