New to Grow
Hi! I'm a licensed mental health counselor who has been working as a therapist for 3 years. I specialize in working with anxiety, grief, life transitions and clients on the autism spectrum, helping my clients become more empowered to take these things on. I'm a laid back therapist who loves creating safe places for clients who need it, and working together to reach a better life.
A first session with me is largely spent with us getting to know each other. Don't worry, we don't jump right into the deep end! I'm happy to answer any questions about me, and I'll also ask questions about you: what you're struggling with, what you're hoping to get out of therapy, your history and your story as a whole. After that, we create goals for us to work toward together that align with what you're looking for out of services.
I use a combination of skills from a variety of different theories. I believe this helps me to tailor therapy to the specific client I'm working with, and not try to fit all my clients into the same box. I'm also very intentional about creating safety in therapy, using things like humor and focusing on self-care which, I think, creates an effective environment to process struggles.
I'm honored to work with anyone who's willing to take a vulnerable step forward and seek out therapy. I'm particularly passionate about working with teens and adults who struggle with anxiety/panic disorders, are navigating grief and recent loss, life transitions, as well as clients on the autism spectrum. I also have significant experience working with trauma, depression and ADHD-related concerns. Whatever brings you to seeking out help, I'll provide you a safe environment of connection and collaboration to work through things.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I love using acceptance and commitment therapy approaches, and have been using these for much of my career thus far! I think finding our values and making sure we're living alongside them is a huge part of managing mental health concerns. I also love what it shows us about our thoughts, and how to manage things like anxiety or other situations where we can "spiral". I use these approaches as homework for my clients to regularly practice.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use a lot of skills from the CBT world with my clients. Particularly when I work with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma and otherwise, I help us find skills to not take negative thinking at face value and take some power back. This usually looks like "homework" coping skills to practice.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
My bread and butter! You are the expert on your story in my office. Every part of planning out treatment and progress is with a person-centered focus in mind. You have plenty of space to process the bullcrap of life if you need.
Attachment-based
I integrate attachment work into my practice, as well. This often impacts cases of trauma, where we identify some patterns of thinking together that might come from insecure attachment, and how to adjust these.
Grief Therapy
I have a lot of experience working with cases of grief. With this, I take a very strengths-based approach, helping you identify coping skills and ways to manage the hurt in ways that don't overexert you, but also help us on a road to recovery.
