New to Grow
I’m Lisa Gibbs, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 10 years of experience helping individuals, couples, families, children, and teens navigate life’s challenges. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationship and intimacy concerns, family conflict, ADHD, and major life transitions. My approach to therapy is warm, compassionate, collaborative, and holistic. I believe every person has a unique story, and I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard, gain insight, discover your strengths, and begin creating meaningful and lasting change.
Our first session is about getting to know you beyond a diagnosis or the challenges that brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what has been happening in your life, what feels most important to you, and what you hope will be different as a result of counseling. I’ll ask questions about your experiences, relationships, strengths, concerns, and goals, but you will never be expected to share more than you are comfortable sharing. Together, we will begin identifying patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, trauma responses, grief, relationship difficulties, or other concerns. We’ll also discuss what you would like to accomplish in therapy and develop a treatment approach that feels realistic and meaningful to you. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, respected, supported, and hopeful about the work ahead.
I bring warmth, compassion, clinical experience, and a genuine respect for each client’s individual story. My approach is not one-size-fits-all. I draw from evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches while considering the emotional, relational, behavioral, and personal factors that influence your well-being. I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship and intimacy concerns, family conflict, ADHD, and major life transitions. I also enjoy helping couples strengthen communication, rebuild emotional connection, and develop healthier patterns within their relationships. Clients can expect a therapist who will listen without judgment while also gently challenging patterns that may be keeping them stuck. I believe therapy should provide more than a place to talk—it should help you develop insight, practical tools, healthier boundaries, stronger relationships, and greater confidence in yourself.
My ideal client may be experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, family conflict, intimacy concerns, ADHD, or a challenging life transition. I work well with children, teens, adults, couples, and families who want a supportive space to better understand themselves and their relationships. You do not need to have everything figured out or even know exactly where to begin. I especially enjoy working with clients who are open to self-reflection, developing healthier boundaries, strengthening communication, healing from past experiences, and learning practical tools that can create meaningful change in their everyday lives.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns and explore how those patterns may contribute to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or feeling stuck. I help clients challenge negative beliefs, develop healthier perspectives, strengthen coping skills, and practice practical strategies they can use outside of therapy. I tailor CBT interventions to each client's age, needs, experiences, and individual treatment goals.
I integrate Christian counseling when faith and spirituality are important to the client. With the client’s permission, we may explore biblical principles, prayer, spiritual values, forgiveness, purpose, and the role faith plays in healing. I respect each client’s beliefs and only incorporate faith-based interventions when they align with the client’s preferences and treatment goals.
I use Narrative Therapy to help clients explore the stories they have developed about themselves through relationships, trauma, loss, and life experiences. Together, we separate the person from the problem, challenge limiting beliefs, identify strengths, and create a healthier narrative that reflects who they are and who they want to become.
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore uncertainty about change without judgment or pressure. Through supportive conversations, we identify personal values, strengths, barriers, and reasons for change. This approach helps clients strengthen motivation, build confidence, and make decisions that are consistent with their personal goals
I use a mind-body approach to help clients recognize how emotions, thoughts, stress, and trauma can affect both emotional and physical well-being. Depending on the client’s needs, we may incorporate grounding, mindfulness, breathing, body awareness, relaxation, and other strategies to promote emotional regulation and a greater sense of connection with oneself.
