Hello, and welcome. My name is Renee Romeo, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges with compassion, authenticity, and evidence-based care. I believe that seeking therapy is a courageous step, and I strive to create a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, grief and loss, self-esteem concerns, stress, and difficulties with communication or emotional regulation. My approach is collaborative and individualized, recognizing that each person's experiences, strengths, and goals are unique. Together, we will identify obstacles, build practical coping strategies, and develop meaningful goals that support lasting growth and emotional well-being. My therapeutic style is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy while integrating evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Solution-Focused Therapy, and trauma-informed care. I believe that therapy should not only provide insight but also equip clients with practical tools they can use in their daily lives to build resilience, improve relationships, and increase confidence. Whether you are working through a difficult life event, healing from past experiences, or simply looking to better understand yourself, I am committed to meeting you where you are and walking alongside you throughout your journey. My goal is to help you feel empowered to create meaningful change, strengthen your relationships, and build a life that reflects your values and aspirations. I look forward to partnering with you on your path toward healing, personal growth, and lasting wellness

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it's completely normal to feel a little nervous. My goal during our first session is to create a comfortable, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where you can share your story at your own pace. During our initial session, we'll spend time getting to know one another. I'll ask questions about what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, personal history, relationships, strengths, and the goals you hope to achieve. This conversation helps me gain a better understanding of your unique experiences while giving you the opportunity to ask questions and determine whether I am the right fit for your needs. Together, we'll begin identifying the challenges you're facing, explore what has and hasn't worked for you in the past, and collaborate on meaningful treatment goals that align with your values and priorities. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your individual needs, meaning therapy will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. You don't need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Whether you're seeking support for anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress, grief, or personal growth, we'll work together to build practical coping strategies, increase self-awareness, and create a path toward meaningful and lasting change. My hope is that you leave our first session feeling heard, supported, and encouraged, with a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process and confidence that you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to build genuine, trusting relationships with my clients. I believe that meaningful change begins with feeling safe, heard, and understood, so I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I bring empathy, authenticity, patience, and curiosity into every session. I take time to understand each client's unique experiences, strengths, values, and goals rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I work alongside my clients to help them gain insight, develop practical coping skills, and build confidence in their ability to navigate life's challenges. In addition to providing emotional support, I am committed to offering evidence-based interventions that clients can apply outside of therapy. I integrate approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , Motivational Interviewing , Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, Solution-Focused Therapy, and trauma-informed care to ensure treatment is individualized and goal-oriented. Clients often appreciate that I balance compassion with accountability. I provide a supportive environment while also encouraging growth, helping clients recognize unhelpful patterns, develop healthier perspectives, strengthen communication, improve relationships, and create lasting, meaningful change. My goal is for every client to leave each session feeling supported, empowered, and equipped with practical tools they can use in their everyday lives.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the primary evidence-based approaches I integrate into my clinical practice. I use CBT to help clients recognize the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while empowering them to develop healthier ways of thinking and responding to life's challenges. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and individualized. Rather than simply focusing on symptom reduction, I work alongside clients to identify unhelpful thought patterns, cognitive distortions, and core beliefs that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, or emotional distress. Together, we examine the evidence for these beliefs, challenge negative thinking, and replace it with more balanced, realistic perspectives. In session, I incorporate practical CBT interventions such as cognitive restructuring, thought records, behavioral activation, problem-solving, goal setting, and coping skills training. I also encourage clients to practice new skills between sessions through homework assignments, journaling, mindfulness exercises, and real-life behavioral experiments. These strategies help clients build confidence and apply what they learn in therapy to their everyday lives. While CBT serves as a foundation of my work, I recognize that every client is unique. I integrate CBT with other evidence-based approaches—including person-centered therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, solution-focused techniques, and trauma-informed care—when clinically appropriate. This flexible, individualized approach allows me to meet clients where they are while supporting meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to provide clients with practical tools that promote resilience, improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, and foster long-term emotional well-being. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring their experiences, developing insight, and building the skills needed to navigate life's challenges with greater confidence.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person-Centered Therapy is a foundational part of my clinical approach because I believe that every individual has the capacity for growth, healing, and positive change when they feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive therapeutic environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences at their own pace. My role is not to tell clients what they should do, but to work collaboratively with them as they gain greater self-awareness, identify their strengths, and discover solutions that align with their personal values and goals. I approach each client with empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, recognizing that every person's experiences, culture, and perspective are unique. In practice, I use active listening, reflective responses, open-ended questions, and compassionate exploration to help clients better understand themselves and the patterns that may be contributing to emotional distress or interpersonal difficulties. As clients develop insight and self-acceptance, they are often better equipped to make meaningful decisions, improve relationships, and build confidence in their ability to navigate life's challenges.
