Brittany McKinney
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker passionate about helping people heal from trauma, manage anxiety and depression, and find healthier ways to cope with life’s challenges. In my work with veterans and individuals facing grief, loss, and emotional distress, I use trauma-informed care, DBT, and supportive therapy to create a safe, collaborative space for growth. My goal is to empower clients to build resilience, strengthen relationships, and feel more grounded in their daily lives.
First session
Our first session is all about getting to know you. We’ll talk through what brought you to therapy, what you’d like to work on, and what feels most important for your healing. I’ll ask questions to better understand your story, but there’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. By the end of our session, you’ll leave with a clearer sense of what therapy will look like, and we’ll set some initial goals together so you know we’re headed in the right direction.
Strengths
My greatest strength as a therapist is creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel understood and never judged. With years of experience in suicide prevention, trauma-informed care, and DBT, I specialize in helping clients manage overwhelming emotions, navigate grief and loss, and build healthier coping skills. I combine compassion with practical tools—like mindfulness, distress tolerance, and empowerment strategies—so clients leave sessions with both relief and a clear path forward. Clients often tell me they appreciate my down-to-earth, collaborative style that makes therapy feel approachable, real, and effective.
Ideal clients
I love working with people who feel overwhelmed by emotions, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or weighed down by trauma and loss. My clients are often strong, caring individuals who show up for everyone else but struggle to care for themselves. They want tools to manage stress, build confidence, and improve relationships without feeling judged. If you’re ready to heal, grow, and reclaim your peace, I’m here to support you.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Informed Care
I use trauma-informed care as the foundation of my practice, creating a safe and collaborative space for healing. With experience supporting veterans and individuals impacted by grief, PTSD, and emotional distress, I integrate DBT, mindfulness, and expressive arts techniques to build coping skills, strengthen resilience, and empower clients to heal at their own pace.
Supportive
I use supportive therapy to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and validated. My approach focuses on encouragement, problem-solving, and practical coping strategies, helping clients manage stress, build confidence, and move toward their personal goals.
Racial trauma treatment
I provide racial trauma treatment that acknowledges the impact of racism, discrimination, and systemic oppression on mental health. My approach creates a safe, culturally responsive space where clients feel seen and supported, using trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and empowerment strategies to process experiences, build resilience, and foster healing.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients manage intense emotions, reduce impulsive behaviors, and improve relationships. By teaching skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, I support clients in building healthier coping strategies and creating lasting change.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore their goals, strengthen motivation, and build confidence in making positive changes. Through a collaborative and nonjudgmental approach, I guide clients in uncovering their own strengths and creating sustainable steps toward growth.
