About me

Hi, I’m Jonny. I’ve been practicing as a clinician in Western North Carolina since 2016, beginning in community mental health with children and families before transitioning to private practice with adults. That background shaped my core belief that mental healthcare should be accessible, humane, and deeply personal. In my practice, I offer a warm, collaborative space where we balance practical, incremental steps with your bigger-picture goals for meaningful growth. I’d love to connect and talk about what we can accomplish together.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My main strength as a trauma counselor is my ability to maintain a balanced perspective while challenging clients to take their next step. Much of trauma resolution involves learning how to inhabit a regulated nervous system. We naturally react to the world based on survival patterns that helped us cope in the past—even if those patterns no longer serve us today. In sessions, I help you slow down, recognize these automatic responses without judgment, and build the physical and emotional safety needed to respond with intention rather than habit.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Healing from trauma often means carrying experiences that were never fully seen or supported. If you grew up needing to adapt, stay vigilant, or hold things together on your own, therapy can be a place where you finally don’t have to do that anymore. I offer a genuine counseling experience for adults working through childhood trauma who are seeking a therapeutic relationship that feels both safe and appropriately challenging. I also offer support for teens navigating overwhelm and identity development. Together, we’ll move at a pace that respects your nervous system while building the trust and consistency needed for lasting change. My approach integrates psychodynamic work—helping us understand how past experiences continue to shape your inner world—with Gestalt techniques that keep our focus grounded in the here and now. This allows insight to emerge while also creating real-time experiences of support, choice, and agency within the therapeutic relationship. While insight is an important part of healing, meaningful change also comes from practicing new ways of responding to stress. Our work will include developing skills in distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and self-compassion so growth is not only understood, but felt and carried into your everyday life.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

How we experience relationships today is deeply rooted in our early attachment experiences. The safety, trust, or unpredictable dynamics we experienced with early caregivers set the stage for how we navigate vulnerability as adults. In our work together, we’ll look at how these past patterns are influencing your current relationships—including your relationship with yourself. Through identifying and processing these early relational traumas, we can work toward building lasting security, self-compassion, and stronger connections.

Existential

At its heart, existential therapy addresses the fundamental questions we all encounter: how we make sense of ourselves, how we connect with the world, and how we build a life of purpose. These aren't abstract academic concepts, but practical everyday reflections. In our work, we’ll examine the ways you are already wrestling with these big questions, helping you process feelings of being stuck or disconnected so you can move forward with clarity and self-authored meaning.
