About me

I am a systems therapist, a trauma informed therapist with years of experience both with inpatient and outpatient care, and a couples therapist who has trained with the Gottmans as well as Stan Tatkin and others. I am strong enough to hold space for all of the confusion and pain that life can throw at us, and stay beside you as your find your way again. I strongly believe we have the answers inside ourselves, and that it's easy to get lost in the noise of the world, our families, and our relationships. It's my honor to travel with you as you find your way back to the life you want, your values, and your priorities.. I am familiar with anxiety, panic disorder, depression, grief, and adjustment disorders. I do have weaknesses: I am not trained in bipolar disorder, nor am I a licensed substance abuse counselor. I do not treat those concerns.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

My first sessions are a little formal, I will go over the rules and regulations of therapy so that you know your rights and understand that process. There will always be time for you to ask questions. I will do a full assessment, even if your answers are short because you don't know me yet. It's a chance for us to get to know each other.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Studying theatre helped me understand that human beings have all sorts of experiences that contribute to the choices they think they have. Being a Systems therapist means that I will help you note all the systems in your life (childhood, family, neighborhood, culture, city, country, ethnicity, etc) and how they have informed your feelings and thoughts. Then I will work with you to sort through what you value and want to keep, what is no longer serving you that you want to change, and what you need to be who you truly want to be. For couples, my strength is in identifying patterns that stifle connection so you can learn new ways to listen to and hear one another that create understanding, even when you don't agree.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is ready for something in their life to change, and they recognize they have the power, if not the tools, to change it. Clients who struggle with understanding the source of their anxiety or depression and want to dig that out, are great clients because they are curious and motivated. People who have suffered traumas and crave understanding are great clients for me, because I am both unflappable, and strongly relational. I can hold that pain, I can see you without judging you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

There will be times when I challenge your thinking or a behavior, gently and without judgement. And you can always tell me when I have missed the mark. Behavior and thinking can influence emotion, so the goal is always to bring those things into alignment with who you want to be.

Trauma Informed Care

I have studied all sorts of trauma, including entire conferences based on therapeutic interventions to treat everything from childhood trauma, to sexual and physical abuse, to the trauma of grief. When trauma is caused by or in relationship, it must be healed in and by relationship. Ours is a professional relationship, but it is emotionally intimate in ways that always focus on your healing through being heard and understood, free of judgement.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Therapy is all about you. It's yours. I am hear to witness your experience and help you become the person your most want to be. That means sitting with you in your greatest joys, supporting you in your successes, and holding space for you during your worst moments.
