Melissa Davis
I’m a warm, down‑to‑earth therapist who shows up as a real human in the room — honest, engaging, and not afraid to bring humor into the process when it helps someone breathe a little easier. I’ve been through my own hard seasons and know what it’s like to rebuild, to feel unheard, and to carry things quietly. Those experiences shape the way I sit with people now. I’ve spent years working closely with individuals facing addiction, shame, and stigma, and I’ve learned how healing it can be to have a space where you don’t have to perform or filter yourself. My practice is built around authenticity, compassion, and depth. You can show up messy, passionate, uncertain, hopeful, or anything in between — all of you is welcome here.
My approach stands out because it’s deeply human — you can laugh, cry, swear, be messy, be brilliant, be confused.
First session
In our first session, my focus is on getting to know you — not just your symptoms or your history, but who you are as a person and what you’ve been carrying. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what feels most urgent right now, and what you hope will feel different. I know starting therapy can come with nerves, uncertainty, or the fear of being judged, so I make space for all of that. You don’t have to perform, impress, or have everything figured out. We’re in this together. My hope is that you leave that first session feeling seen, understood, and a little less alone. I want you to feel like you’re not “too much,” like you’re in the right place, and like you don’t have to carry everything by yourself anymore. Many people come in unsure if therapy will actually help this time — my goal is for you to walk out thinking, “Okay… maybe this could work.” I work one‑on‑one with individuals, and I tailor my approach to each person’s needs. Sometimes that means offering gentle space to breathe; other times it means honest reflection or compassionate challenge. Either way, you can expect a real human sitting across from you — someone who listens deeply, holds your story with care, and helps you take the first steps toward feeling more grounded.
Strengths
I bring a blend of warmth, humor, and grounded honesty to every session. My own life experiences — the hard seasons, the rebuilding, the moments of feeling unseen, and the moments of finding my voice again — shape the way I sit with people. I know what it feels like to carry heavy things and still show up, and I bring that understanding into the room. I’m not the type of therapist who sits silently and nods. I hold space gently when you need room to breathe, but I also speak up when something needs to be named. I’ll challenge you with compassion, ask the questions that help you see patterns more clearly, and celebrate the moments when you reconnect with your strengths. My approach stands out because it’s deeply human — you can laugh, cry, swear, be messy, be brilliant, be confused. All of you is welcome here.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who’s been carrying a lot for a long time — the person who holds everything together for everyone else, even when they feel messy, complex, overwhelmed, or “too much.” They might be navigating anxiety, depression, shame, or relationship patterns that keep repeating. Some are in recovery or questioning their relationship with substances. Many feel unheard, misunderstood, or disconnected from themselves. They’re not looking for a clinical robot; they want a therapist who feels real. Someone who can offer depth and honesty, but also humor when it helps. Someone who doesn’t flinch at f‑bombs, tears, or the truth. My ideal client wants therapy to feel like a safe, grounding space where they can finally exhale — a place where they don’t have to perform or pretend. They want a collaborative process, gentle challenge when it’s needed, and the freedom to show up exactly as they are.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients notice the thoughts and patterns that keep them stuck. Together, we explore how those thoughts shape emotions and behaviors, and we practice small, realistic shifts that make life feel more manageable. I keep it collaborative and down‑to‑earth — no worksheets unless they actually help.
Compassion-Focused
I use compassion‑focused work to help clients soften harsh self‑criticism and build a kinder relationship with themselves. Many people come in feeling “too much,” and this approach helps them feel more “enough.” We explore how shame shows up and practice ways to respond with warmth instead of judgment.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person‑centered approach by meeting clients exactly where they are and creating a space where they can be fully themselves. I listen deeply, validate your experience, and follow your pace. This approach helps you feel safe enough to be honest — even about the messy, complicated parts of your story — and supports you in growing into the most authentic version of yourself.
Interpersonal
I use interpersonal therapy to explore relationship patterns, communication styles, and the roles clients take on in their lives. We look at how past relationships shape current ones and how connection, conflict, or isolation impact emotional wellbeing. It helps clients understand themselves in relation to others.
Motivational Interviewing
I use MI to help clients explore ambivalence and strengthen their motivation for change. Instead of pushing, I ask curious questions and help them connect their choices to their values. It’s especially helpful for clients navigating recovery or big life transitions.
