About me

Hi, I’m Ama, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in DC and Maryland, clinically licensed since 2010. I bring a warm, down-to-earth, and nonjudgmental presence to therapy, offering space to be honest about what you’re experiencing without feeling pressured to have it all figured out. My experience in private practice and school settings has deepened my appreciation for how relationships, culture, and everyday demands shape our emotional well-being. I support adults ages 18–60 navigating depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, including polyamorous dynamics and life or career transitions through a collaborative approach that combines meaningful reflection with practical skills. If you’re looking to understand yourself more deeply and grow into a more adaptive, resilient version of yourself, we may be a good fit.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to change, and what support feels most helpful. You’ll have space to ask questions, share at your own pace, and begin developing a collaborative growth plan. I hope you leave feeling heard, respected, and more confident about the process, knowing that our partnership is grounded in mutual respect, openness, and a nonjudgmental approach.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring warmth, cultural sensitivity, and a willingness to gently challenge you when it supports your growth. I balance encouragement with honest feedback, practical tools, and patience; recognizing that growth needs different kinds of support at different times. I respect each client’s cultural background and incorporate principles of Black Psychology for those seeking an African-centered approach.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is an adult ages 18–60 navigating anxiety, depression, relationship or family concerns, career stress, or a life transition. They may feel stuck, question their worth, or want to understand patterns that keep showing up in their lives. They’re looking for a collaborative, nonjudgmental space where they can reflect honestly, explore their cultural identity and values, and practice new skills. They don’t need all the answers—just a willingness to explore, consider gentle challenges, and take steps toward greater resilience, healthier relationships, and meaningful growth.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and actions connect. Together, we’ll recognize patterns that keep you stuck, explore more balanced ways of thinking, and practice skills for everyday challenges. We’ll build these steps into your growth plan and adjust them as we learn what works for you.
