I try to provide my clients with assistance on determining what their primary goals are in therapy and what problems are standing in their way. My ideal client is someone who recognizes that they want to change something in their lives that is preventing them from moving forward. Ideally, they are self-motivated (not engaging in therapy because a family member or loved one is pressuring them to change). In addition, the client is willing to work on their problems outside of the therapy session and put into practice the skills they have learned. My approach combines both empathy and practicality. While I value good rapport with a client I also want to provide them with the tools they need to better their lives.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session will mostly focus on discussion of your life situation (living situation, personal interests and goals, etc.) unless you prefer that we immediately start to address your concerns. I will also discuss a bit about myself that are clinically appropriate so that you get an idea of me as a person.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I was raised in a dysfunctional household setting and both of my parents suffered from anxiety, depression and poverty so I have experienced these things first hand which helps me relate better to many of my clients.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I like clients that are really interested and motivated to learn techniques to address their problems. I want us to establish clear goals and measurable outcomes so we avoid just drifting during our sessions. I want clients that understand that therapy is not meant to be a life long process (some clients fall into the trap of substituting therapy for meaningful personal relationships or over relying on the therapist for emotional regulation). My goal is to teach you the skills needed to regulate yourself and ultimately no longer need therapy. I like to set an initial goal of the client achieving their therapy goals no longer than in 6 months.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I try to help my clients recognize when their thoughts about themselves and their problems contribute to worsening their symptoms and teach them ways to counter their negative thoughts.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I try to help my clients recognize when their emotions about themselves and their problems contribute to worsening their symptoms. The big goal in DBT is to help the client regulate their emotions and not feel like they are always manipulated by their emotions. In addition, developing a good sense of self is an important part of DBT.
