Tylon Staggs
I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) providing psychiatric care for adults from all walks of life. Starting psychiatric care can feel like a big step, and it's okay if you're not sure what to expect. I'm here to help you understand the process and make it feel a little less overwhelming. I enjoy getting to know my patients because no two people are alike. I don't believe there's a single treatment plan that works for everyone. I'm conversational by nature and enjoy celebrating every step forward, no matter how small. Meaningful progress doesn't always happen overnight, and I enjoy helping people recognize and build on those wins along the way. My role is to help you better understand your symptoms, offer guidance based on the best available evidence, and work with you to find an approach that fits your goals and your life. Some people benefit from medication, others may not, and sometimes the best approach changes over time. If medication is part of the plan, I'll explain why I think it's a good option, what to expect, and answer any questions you have.
First session
Your first appointment is really just a conversation. We'll talk about what brought you in, what's been going on, what's helped (or hasn't), and what you're hoping to get out of treatment. I'll ask questions to get the full picture, and you'll have plenty of time to ask yours. If medication makes sense, we'll talk through your options, what you can realistically expect, possible side effects, and decide on a plan together. If medication isn't the right fit, we'll discuss that too. There isn't any pressure to make decisions you're not comfortable with. By the end of the appointment, my hope is that you'll have a better understanding of what's going on, a clear plan for moving forward, and know what the next steps look like.
Strengths
I believe one of my greatest strengths is building a relationship where people feel comfortable asking questions and being honest about what they're experiencing. I enjoy having real conversations with my patients, and I make a point to be fully present during our time together. I ask questions, stay curious, and take the time to understand what's working, what isn't, and why. I approach treatment with my patients, not for them. I want you to feel like an active part of every decision we make. Whether we're talking about symptoms, medications, or the next steps, I'll explain my thought process, answer your questions, and make sure you understand the plan before we move forward. I also believe good care doesn't end when the appointment does. Being responsive, approachable, and consistent are important to me because they help build trust over time. My hope is that you always feel comfortable bringing up concerns, celebrating progress, or letting me know when something isn't working so we can continue adjusting your care together.
Ideal clients
I love working with people from all walks of life. Maybe you're the mom who's carrying everyone else's needs and can't remember the last time you felt like yourself. Maybe you're the busy professional whose mind won't slow down long enough to get a good night's sleep. Maybe you've been struggling with anxiety, depression, or mood changes for years and you're finally ready to do something about it. Or maybe you're an older adult navigating life's changes and looking for support from someone who will take the time to listen. No matter where you are in life, you don't have to have everything figured out before we meet. If you're looking for someone to work alongside you, answer your questions, and help you make sense of what's been going on, I'd love to help.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Informed Care
I recognize that past experiences can affect mental health, treatment, and recovery. I strive to provide care that is respectful, collaborative, and sensitive to each person's experiences while tailoring treatment to their individual needs.
Psychoeducation
I believe understanding your mental health is just as important as treating it. I take time to explain diagnoses, treatment options, medications, expected benefits, possible side effects, and what to expect moving forward so you feel informed and confident in your care.
Supportive
I provide supportive care by creating a comfortable space to talk through life's challenges, celebrate progress, and work through setbacks. My goal is to help you feel encouraged while we focus on practical steps that support your overall treatment plan.
Motivational Interviewing
I use motivational interviewing to better understand what matters most to you and what goals you'd like to achieve. Together, we'll explore challenges, build on your strengths, and make treatment decisions that fit your values, lifestyle, and readiness for change.
Strength-Based
I believe everyone has strengths, even during difficult seasons of life. I enjoy helping patients recognize those strengths, celebrate progress along the way, and use them as a foundation for building confidence and long-term success.
