Welcome! My name is Amber and my practice is called Discover You Therapy, PLLC. I provide individual psychotherapy to Texas adults via virtual sessions. I do not provide couples or family/group therapy nor do I see clients under 18. Do you wonder why you always seem to have relationship problems? Maybe you're a chronic overthinker who struggles with anxiety? Perhaps you suffered a loss that really messed you up? If any of those questions resonate you, you've come to the right place. I specialize in relationships (partners, friends, family, etc), anxiety & grief/loss. These issues can be such a heavy weight to carry! I'd love to walk alongside you to assist so you can begin to breathe again. I will help you navigate through your relationship problems, manage your anxiety and cope with your grief/loss. I will use an integrative therapeutic approach that draws from various modalities to best address your unique needs and circumstances. Rather than adhering rigidly to a single therapeutic model, I will flexibly incorporate techniques from mindfulness based therapy, emotionally focused therapy, grief therapy and other frameworks as appropriate. Reaching out for help is such a courageous move. So happy you've taken that step! I've helped hundreds of clients experience freedom from their relationships, anxiety & grief so I'd be my honor to add you to that client list. Thank you for checking out my profile! If you're interested in getting things started, please contact me to schedule a free 15 min consultation. If we're a good fit, then we can get the initial appointment scheduled.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Client's can expect to establish rapport, review intake information, share what's going on in their lives and develop clear goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Clients have said that I'm non-judgmental, personable, committed and empathetic. I've been told I'm a "safe space" for clients to express their most vulnerable thoughts & feelings. Historically, my clients easily become comfortable with me because of the warm environment I've intentionally curated. That being said, my clients appreciate it when I've challenged them at times; realizing sometimes this is helpful in the therapeutic process. Lastly, I have lived all over & worked with a vast array of clients so one of my strengths is being able to connect to a wide range of clients.

My treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I use EFT to help my clients focus on the emotional experiences and interpersonal patterns in relationships. The goal of EFT is to help clients develop more secure and meaningful emotional bonds with their loved ones.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I use mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) to help my clients become more aware of their thoughts and feelings & manage negative thought patterns. The mindfulness skills help my clients become less reactive to anxiety-provoking thoughts and sensations and better able to respond adaptatively rather than getting caught in worry or panic cycles.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to teach my clients to accept difficult emotions associated with grief, rather than avoiding them. It focuses on developing psychological flexibility and aligning actions with personal values.

Attachment-based

I use attachment-based therapy to target those thoughts, feelings, communications, behaviors and interpersonal exchanges that my clients have learned either to suppress and avoid or to amplify and overemphasize because of early attachment experiences.

Narrative

I use narrative therapy for clients who tend to internalize their problems. Narrative therapy is a collaborative and non-pathologizing approach to therapy which centers people as the experts of their own lives. A narrative approach views problems as separate from people and assumes people as having many skills, abilities, values, commitments, beliefs and competencies that will assist them to change their relationship with the problems influencing their lives.
