Greetings! My name is Dr. Charles and I am a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. I work full-time with adolescents and I'm on Grow as I enjoy seeing adults as well. I completed medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine; General Psychiatry Residency at Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine in New York; and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. I am double board-certified in General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

General intake session - explaining guidelines and practice policies, exploring Chief Complaint, History of Present Illness, Past Psychiatric History, Past Medical History and Social History. The first session is to see if we are a good fit for treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Diverse background, grounded but open to exploring and learning new perspectives, evidence-based practice.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I specialize in clients who are looking for a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment (i.e. psychotherapy).

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I have experience with several types of therapy, both in training and in practice - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychoeducation, Motivational Interviewing, Couples Therapy and Acceptance and commitment therapy, to name a few. There is value in all of these approaches, and I employ them flexibly in treatment based on the individual.

Psychoeducation

As a psychiatrist, I believe that knowledge is power. Understanding diagnoses, treatment options (both pharmacological and non-pharmacological), indications, risks, benefits and prognosis is a crucial part of treatment.
