Yassmin Eldouh
Hello! My name is Yassmin Eldouh. I received my Masters of Science in Counseling at the University of North Texas and am currently working on my PhD in Counseling at the George Washington University. My area of research is around providing culturally competent counseling and working with people of varying identities. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). My approach is trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. I am LGBTQ-A affirming. I come from a Muslim and Arabic background and am multiracial and multiethnic. I also offer therapy in Arabic. I have experiencing working with clients from many different walks of life, including anxiety and depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, eating disorders, addictions, and personality disorders. I have worked in various settings including a residential substance abuse treatment center, an eating disorder treatment center, a domestic violence shelter, and in private practice.
First session
During the first session, I will be gathering information on your history and how things are currently going in your life. I'll get a sense of who you are, how you learn, and overall what works for you. Then, we will be collaborating on goals that you would like to achieve in therapy and ways in which we can achieve those goals. Then, we'll jump into the therapy! We will continue to revisit the progress you have made toward your goals and change/amend them as needed.
Strengths
I tend to create a warm, relaxed, respectful atmosphere in my sessions. I like to use humor and joke around with my clients, and I show up genuinely as I am. I don't believe therapists should be this stoic, cold, expert. I prioritize making my clients feel seen and heard and celebrated exactly as they are. My intersectional identities as an Arab-Asian woman from a Muslim background allows me to experience understanding and empathy for those from varying backgrounds and cultural expectations. I believe in the power of community in healing.
