I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and owner of ChangeMakers, LLC and A Change For ALL2 in Atlanta, Georgia and my psychotherapeutic areas of expertise include: individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, stress management, depression, substance dependency, loss of employment, grief/loss, anger management, life change coaching, relationship & communication, pre-marital counseling, divorce recovery, parenting skills, adolescent development, state funded Independent Living Programs, and Employment Assistant Programs. Life can be filled with unexpected twists and uncertainty. I would like to provide you with guidance for prioritizing your goals to assist you with becoming your best self that will be achieved not just through what we discuss, but also through homework that will be tailored to your needs. It can certainly feel at times that our personal and professional relationships are not moving in the direction or at the speed that we would like for them. Hopefully at the end of this journey, you will feel equipped with tools to build & sustain meaningful connections romantically, professionally, and within your family. Even the most focused and productive person can direct their energy into things that are not fulfilling or that may not feel as if it’s a direction towards what they choose to accomplish in life. Sometimes it can feel like running in place – not moving forward in the areas you really want to improve. The first step of this process will allow you to set goals for the therapeutic journey but also set priorities for the rank order for addressing your needs in the various areas of your life that you’re seeking to change. You have taken the first best step to becoming the best version of yourself and I am grateful to be apart of your journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients will complete a psychosocial assessment during the initial appointment to give me an opportunity to get to know them. Clients will be asked to set goals for the therapeutic journey with Dr Adrienne where they will identify their purpose for therapy. Dr. Adrienne will outline her therapeutic philosophy, provide a brief overview of her background, and have a brief discussion about the expectations of both she and the client. Clients will receive a homework assignment to address unresolved issues to bring to the second session. The second session will be scheduled.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am genuine and authentic in who I am and what I’ve been through which is one of my greatest strengths. I am often told that my energy is infectious and that my spirit shines brightly. I spent 31 years, UNKNOWINGLY, in a relationship with a narcissist. As a trained Psychotherapist, if I can get caught in a web of deception, there are certainly lay people with less professional training that have unknowingly been deceived and more importantly, damaged inside of narcissistic relationships, whether romantic, familial, professional, or platonic. As an Empath, I was the perfect target for my Narcissistic spouse, but I didn’t have the terminology, even as a Therapist to identify who either of us were. Empaths are HEART people that get caught up in care-taking roles and attending to others more than we do ourselves. As a therapist for 33 years, I treat mental health issues daily. I didn’t realize it until going through my divorce and seeking my own treatment, which all good therapist do, that I functioned in depression for almost 30 years. I was in a marriage that was unhealthy and abusive and I hid it from ALL of my friends and family and attempted to pray myself well. My looming concern over the last years has been how my staying in the marriage for so long may have negatively impacted my adult children and their views on healthy heterosexual relationships. I am in a happy loving relationship with the love of my life. I have allowed the experiences of my upbringing, adolescence, and adulthood to mold and shape me into being the best version of myself as opposed to allowing those things that I would have never volunteered for, to define who I am or cause me to be a victim.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Dr. Adrienne ‘s primary care philosophy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy also known as CBT. CBT helps to develop flexible, self-enhancing beliefs and attitudes towards self, others and the world. CBT is goal-directed and offers skills and strategies for overcoming common problems such as anxiety, depression and more. CBT addresses the past with a view to understanding how personal history may affect present day beliefs and behaviors. CBT focuses on how problems are being perpetuated rather than searching for a singular reason or root cause.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is rooted in the belief that addressing the emotional and psychological impact of trauma through structured therapeutic techniques can lead to healing and recovery. Dr. Adrienne practices TF-CBT, to guide her therapeutic approach, ensuring that treatment is compassionate, evidence-based, and client-centered Cognitive-Behavioral Theory which emphasizes the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, suggesting that changing maladaptive thinking can lead to changes in feelings and actions. Empowerment-in empowering clients by helping them regain a sense of control and agency over their lives and responses to trauma. Safety and Trust- prioritizing creating a safe and trusting therapeutic environment where clients feel supported and understood. Resilience and Strength- focusing on identifying and building upon the individual's strengths and resilience to overcome the effects of trauma. Holistic Approach- considering the holistic impact of trauma, including emotional, cognitive, physical, and social dimensions, aiming for comprehensive healing.
