Casey Denzine
Hello, my name is Casey Denzine! I've been a therapist for nine years and have learned quite a bit from the experience and getting therapy myself. I'm a creative with a penchant for pondering, laughter, and a little bit of mischief. I also love me fantasy fiction, complicated board games, and all the animals. Regarding my therapeutic approach, I find it best to pull from a variety of modalities to better support the diversity between and within clients. My favorites include Internal Family Systems (of which I am informed), Role-Play Therapy, narrative models, Jungian and transpersonal psychology, and breathwork/mindfulness.
First session
My mission is to make sure during all the sessions that the client feels like they were heard and understood - that their perception of their goals and issues are honored, not dismissed. This is what I see as the strongest bridge to trust which is needed for therapy to be a valuable experience.
Strengths
I am a very honest person and embrace true authenticity in my sessions. To me that means, I'm not there to make you feel like you need to be fixed. I am there to hold space for your entire self - the parts of you that you cherish most and the parts you have felt pressure to hide out of shame. Ugly crying, hitting pillows, monologues about the merits of vengeance - sometimes it just needs to be experienced. I'm very adept at bringing compassion to the process and the contradictions that arise.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who appreciates the value of a growth mindset and is open to learning how to harness the plasticity of the brain to rewire troublesome core beliefs formed from their social conditioning. So much suffering can be transmuted to relief this way, opening up possibilities clients never thought to consider. Someone who understands the merits of hope even when they don't feel it is a treasure to behold.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I love the humanistic approach because it can encompass such a wide range of techniques lent from other methods. Where it is very specific is that it focuses on clients as individuals rather than a diagnosis or group labels. The client is the expert on their own life. They lead the way through the process by exploring what is important to them. I like to describe it as the client being the captain of the ship while I am in the crow's nest looking out on the horizon for potential boons and hazards. If the captain has their mind set on a particular direction, that is where we are going!
